I wouldnt dog on the cobalt, track tests have proved them to be quite the SRT fighter, and dont forget the normal S/C tricks work for them as well (I.E. intake, pulley, and exhaust away from being in the 300+hp range with little wieght) If you consider the $4K turbo package for the neon, put that into a cobalt and youll be movin as well.
I agree with test driving the new goat. Also consider the possibility of a DOD (displacement on demand) 5.3L fbody making 300+ horses and a solid 30mpg. A whole lotta competition going on, just look at the new GT500.
