The 427 cobras were pretty fast but this on??? Bugatti no problem.
Also you cannot compare the cobra with a bugatti totally different style.

I can't believe any of the Ford guys have claimed blasphemy since it's a Chevy Big Block in there.

It doesn't say Big Block Chevy anywhere I've looked, but I did some searching, and here's some hints. In this pic, you can clearly see the distributor is in the back of the block.

here's a few more pics I found after trying to find out what engine it was.

Still not satisfied of what engine it was, I looked at some parts suppliers catalogs and found a matching set of valve covers with the valve cover bolts in the same location as the pic.

I still can't see the bottom of the valve cover, so I started looking for the intake manifold. I found the exact intake manifold too. You'll have to compare the parts pics with the engine pics, but you'll see the matchups.

Is a Donovan motor considered a BBC?

I think a Donovan is BBC based. The one in that ad has Pontiac pro stock heads on it.

Are there any aftermarket aluminum big blocks out there that are BBC based? I know of a 500ci+ LS based engine, but thats just a rediculous SBC (based).

Yes, Donnovan Blocks are based on Chevy, I believe Mark IV big blocks or maybe Tall TALL deck DRCE blocks.

Actually...now that I think about it...Donovan blocks are based on the GM DRCE block. From the above with the statement about Pontiac Prostock heads...it was basically the block GM decided to make to compete with the hemis I believe...I might just be talking out my ***...but...that's what I'll go with for now.
