GT 500 Q-mile time 13.1? is this true?

A 2002-2004 strong running z06 which stickered for well over 50K a couple years ago would have similar trap speed and ET's. That was considered ungodly fast for a factory production car in its price range. Now, a couple years later we have a Mustang doing it for 10k less and it's considered garbage? Find one car in that price range that can perform with it in braking, handling and acceleration along with having such potential for more power. 14" rotors, forged/blown 5.4 liter with conservative boost, big wheels and tires, strong tranny, etc. What's it gonna take to make people happy? 124 mph traps are 70K zo6 territory, not for a Mustang.

Yeah, that is some bullshit. Motor Trend got some pretty crappy times as well. But look at the '03-04 Cobras and the potential they have. Sure they're heavy, but they whip up on LS1's all the time. It takes a lot for us LS1 guys to even up the playing field. This car is just out, people are racing to test it out and be the first to report on it. Once things cool down and people start really putting this car through its paces, I think we will all feel better. Mid-12's was my guess all along, so I too was disappointed. But I didn't fall for it. The potential of this car is much better that what it was for the '03-04 Cobras. That tells me that we are gonna be seeing some 700+ RWHP GT500's real soon. And what hurts so bad for us LS1 guys is that it is going to be so easy to get there. A few bolt-ons, up the boost and tune it.......there's no easy way for us to touch that. Ford has proven that they will bring out the big dogs when they need to. I love LS1's, but I will always respect any big dog.

4000 pounds and 425 rwhp equals to 12.2 with great conditions and a perfect driver...The averge guy will be in the 12.6-12.8 range imho...
Think about it. the srt 10 Viper eighs 3390 pounds and has 430 rwhp.....And a average time for it is 12.2 at 119 mph....
Sure with Evan smith driving it would pull a 11.6 at 124 mph.....But who cares because those kinda numbers for eighter car are unrealistic....
To me the GT500 is a Joke......Id put my money on a bone stock 2002 C5 Z06 being faster through the 1/4 mile than the new Gt500 with equal drivers....
Considering how the 03 cobra could run 12.9 with an average driver 3 years ago and trap 111 mph with an average driver...
12.6 at 114 mpg with an average driver just dosent seem lie enough of an jump....
The C5 coupe of 2004 went from running 13.2 at 108 mph with an average driver to the C6 coupe of 2005 that runs 12.7 at 113 mph with an average driver...
Thats a 5 tenth and 5 mph differance...
And dont even get me started on the 2004 C5Z06 vrs the 2006 Z06...
12.6 at 114 mph with an average driver vrs 12.0 at 122 mph with an average driver...
Chevy stepped up their game big time......What the hell is weong with Ford?????
Evan smith only got a 12.2 at 117 mph from the GT 500...Id bet my left nut he could have got a 12.5 at 113 mphfrom the 03 cobra.

Your post sounds like sour grapes.
BTW- I would get the Z06 too, but because it's a better deal dollar for dollar (using inflated price for GT500 and MSRP for Z06)
However- if it settles down for 46k (GT 500) then its a winner.

The GT500 to me is an amazing example of American muscle, and that make me happy.
For the power it has, it should be faster, but at 4000+lbs, that's about all you're gonna get. Either way, a car running low 12s out of the box is damn fast any way you look at it.
The horsepower wars are on in full force!

Even the GT500 @ sticker is unobtainable priced for most, new off the showroom floor.
Even if GM does do a "ZL1" Camaro (if they ever **** and get off the pot and do a Camaro), it will have to be reasonably priced in order to not be a "joke" of a car.
Just my $.02.

Thats the most impressive to me. I used to have one and the v6 mustang I went to all the time always talked about that. So many there have 15.1-2 with exhaust and intake.

I saw a brand new Shelby GT500 at Cecil County about 2 weeks ago. They brought it in on a roll-back with no tags. They did have DR's on, and I saw a few passes around 12.50 @ 118mph IIRC. The first pass I saw it looked like he did everything wrong (rolled right thru water box dragging water onto the track with the front wheels, spinning off the line, etc) and it still did 12.5.
I might have some runs on video. Let me check my tape from that night.
On a side note, that car sounds MEAN AS HELL in person!!!

There was a vert Shelby GT 500 at the track last night. Orange with the black stripe package. It went 12.7s at like 110. Cant remember the exact numbers but it was pretty impressive for first time out. Seemed to do it very quietly.

They're already running 11.90's with light bolt ons & tires (stock pulley).
10's will be very easy IMO since power will come very easily.

i think the only thing the gt500 lacks, or has of excess for this matter, is weight. a 2 ton sports car is insane. the stock gt is 3400 pounds, where did they get another 600 pounds from? thats a heavy *** blower
