Return of the Ford 5.8L V8
Scheduled for MY2009.
Planned for both trucks and at least 1 passenger car.
Also, a 6.2 liter V8 tentatively just planned for trucks as a replacement for the Triton V10.
Both are the evolution of the "Hurricane" engine that was restarted recently. Emphasis will be on high horsepower and torque numbers as well as fuel economy and lower assembly costs.
No word on estimates, but the 5.8 target seems to be in the area of 375-400 horsepower, with close to the same torque number. The 6.2 is expected to be at least 25-50 horses more.
Also, Ford Powertrain Vice President Barb Samardzich indicated Ford's new 263 horse 3.5 V6 will end up in the Mustang.
If Ford does survive (let alone, turn around), at least it's engines will be competitive with the industry's best.

Instead let's hope GM gets it right the first time and has the capacity at it's engine plant to use it's corporate DOHC 3.6L High Feature V6 that cranks out 235-255hp with room for improvement. Considering that the Camaro will ride on a modified Zeta platform I'm thinking that provided they don't get cheap and decide to head down pushrod lane, this is the engine they will use. It's already used in the base model Commodore so it makes sense to use it in the Camaro as well.

This pretty much means we can atleast bet there will be a ls2 powered camaro for the base v8. And since dodge has already announced a 6.6l we can bet that there will be either a ls7 or ls8/9 top of the line camaro also. They aren't going to let either company out do them.
