Default DPRK fines Monster Garages, Jessie James

Kali Smog ***** got him. http://news.yahoo.com/s/ap/20070127/...le_jesse_james

LONG BEACH, Calif. - "Monster Garage" reality show host Jesse James has agreed to pay $271,250 for violating California's air quality laws by selling motorcycles that did not meet the state's strict emissions standards, authorities said.

His Long Beach motorcycle building shop, West Coast Choppers, sold more than 50 new or custom-built motorcycles between 1998 and 2005 that were not certified by the Air Resources Board, the agency said in a statement Friday.

Attempts to reach James for comment Friday were unsuccessful. An employee who answered the phone at West Coast Choppers said the company would have no comment.

As part of a settlement, the shop is building motorcycles that comply with emission standards, the board said.

James is married to actress Sandra Bullock. His Discovery Channel series about customized vehicles aired for five seasons.

He should do cali a favor and sell them outside the state so purchasers have to convert them when they buy them and bring them back to cali.

Hey man if you can't do the time (or in this case pay the fine) don't do the crime. He should have known better than to do something as stupid as that.

I guess the "these are for show and not for riding" arguement didn't work for him. I mean, in all reality, I bet most of those bikes ended up outside the state, and I bet most never get ridden. . .if any of them do.

But, that's the way the law is written. Sucks for him, but he's still rich. . .

LOL **** California. That's the worst state in the damned Country. Only interested in the cash settlement, LOL. That shows you how corrupt the state is right there. All those other bikes are still going to be out there...

I can't wait to see how he gets those things to pass Cali emissions. The Jap bikes are even having a hard time now, and are running cats.

So that leaves how many hundreds of shops out in Cali still building bikes that don't comply? What a crock of ****.

The money doesn't affect him, but it would close plenty of other bike shops.

to all you tree hugging hippies.

See...this is the that goes to show that the government (especially cali) is out of control. It's called over stepping your jurisdiction. If these bikes were sold to out of state customers and NEVER titled or liscenced in california, wtf does it matter? I'm sure california doesn't have cars that travel through their state isn't from oh, Oklahoma, Montana, ect where they don't really have emissions standards right? All it is is a $$$$ making scheme.

I'm glad somebody else sees the MONEY behind this scheme. True I'm sure plenty of his bikes reside in CA where theres tons of big names, and big money.

Point is, I'm not aware of ONE bike shop on the west coast, building custom bikes/choppers etc. that run exhaust setups that would pass that California CARB bullshit.

They hit the big dawg builder, took a huge chunk of $$$, and walked away clean. Lets see how many other shops get hit; yeah thats a laugh

Somehow I doubt that $271,250 dented his wallet. All the media hype that went into him.... that man made some cash.

Sure...it probably didn't hurt him, but what is it about Government agentcies going after people that make an honest living? As someone else eluded too, they sure as hell didn't go after some of the high end bike builders (or maybe they will). This was specific targeting to "make an example" and collect some fast cash.

This is why vehicles have to comply to the standards and laws and regs set in the state in which they are titled and registered.

If I were him, I would. Sure...it's a couple grand, big deal in the scheme of things when you're probably as wealthy as him, but just on the principal alone...it's enough to make me mad, if it where me.
