Default Fans Of RWD Rejoice: Pontiac Unveils The VE Commodore Based G8

*Edited Because LLN sux0rz at the hosting of the images.

Well it's here. What you need to know. 362/391 6.0L L98 V8 mated to a 6 speed automatic with a 6 speed manual option to follow. Base motor is a 261/250 3.6L DOHC HF V6 mated to a 5 speed self shifter. The wheels, tires and suspension bits are show pieces taken from the hotted up Aussie market 411hp HSV GTS so expect those to be toned down on the production car. LLN is reporting that 18s will be standard with 19s optional on the V8 model. Since the V8 model is being christened the G8 GT I'd be willing to wager that we'll probably see a version of the 411hp HSV GTS here stateside as a G8 GXP in keeping with Pontiac's current naming theme.

My only complaints:

1. Those hood scoops look pretty ghey.

2. The Holden has a nicer looking grille.

Other than that this thing is hot IMO.

When is the Chevrolet version coming out?

What are they going to call it?

Hot car BTW, they just have to shake some of that old school Pontiac look.

(I am talking about the nose of the car)

The Zeta based Impala should hit showrooms a year after the G8 so expect to see it for the 2009 model year alongside the production Camaro. Seems a loooong way off when you consider that the G8 and the cross town Dodge Challenger won't even show up until next spring. Now begins the hardest part... the waiting.

That will be my next daily driver. I see the motor is named L76. Does that mean it will have L92 style (small bore) heads? I assume that is where we get the L76 intake manifold. If that is the case; why don't the American 6.0L motors get the L92 style (small bore) heads and intake?

Hmm, weird. The G8s motor is dubbed L76 which in this application is rated at 362/391, but L76 was also the name of the old motor Holden installed in its previous gen VZ Commodore last year which was rated at 348/376 just a year ago. The recently introduced VE cars are powered by the L98 down under which is rated at the same 362/391 as the US spec L76 to be put into the G8. Additionally the G8s version of the L76 will feature displacement on demand whereas the Holden version did not feature DOD technology.

******* just couldn't give the G8s motor a new engine code. Or better yet, give all V8 versions of the car LS2s to clear up and prevent any sort of confusion in the future.
