I love the 4.3L in my truck, it does a hell of a job. If it had the 6 speed it would tow even better. I usually tow the snowmobile trailer with it in drive and forget its behind me.
The 4.8L never made any sense to me, maybe it was just GMs way of justifying charging an extra thousand or more for the 5.3L since its basically the same damn motor just one small difference to give it a little less power. Anybody looking to buy a truck will just spend a little more that way and get the 5.3L
What I really hope they hurry and come out with is the baby DMAX! I want boat loads of torque with greater efficency

The 4.8L block is exactly the same as the 5.3L block. The only difference between the two is the stroke length. Same top end, pistons, bore width, etc...
The side stamping on these blocks reads 4.8/5.3, so just by looking at the engine it's impossible to tell which size engine came with the vehicle.

why so many different 5.3's?
Some have aluminum blocks and others cast iron. Aluminum blocks get the 6spd and the iron get the 4spd. They have an iron and aluminum for each fuel type regular unleaded or the flex-fuel.
LMG, LC9, LH6, and LY5
