Talking rpm question

i bought this 04 cts-v used and was told it was completely stock. it feels like i shift through the gears on this car a lot faster than my 99 trans am. i remember being in sixth gear and the rpm's were around 85 mph or so. if i'm in sixth gear, and the car is stock, how fast should i be cruising at 2000 rpm's?

should be 75-80...

completely different gearing here - it has the C5Z gearbox which has shortened 1-3, 4 is 1:1, 5 slighly shorter, 6th same a t-56; the final is 3:73 - this is all from memory, so google it and compare the ratio tables...

This may help:

Stock 3.73 CTS-V

1st 2.97 46 mph @ 6500
2nd 2.07 66 mph @ 6500
3rd 1.43 96 mph @ 6500
4th 1.00 137 mph @ 6500
5th 0.84 163 mph @ 6500
6th 0.56 163 mph @ 4300

60 mph = 1600 rpm
70 mph = 1866 rpm
80 mph = 2133 rpm

LS1 F-bodies and non-Z C5's had 2.73's or 3.15's in the A4 cars (3.15 was "performance axle ratio") and all M6's got 3.42's
