Talking octane

i am a new cts-v owner and i was reading through the manual and it said 87/91/93 octane can be used...it says you will lose some power with the lower octane's...will switching back and forth from different octane's hurt anything?? does anyone use the lower octane's on a common basis and have no issues??

only 93. lower octane fuels in higher compression/hp/rpm engines = no good! put some 87 in there and turn'er up to 6500 and bad things might happen

I can't answer your question, but seriously. How many miles are you driving every month?

The difference around me between 87 and 93 is about $0.35. Even if you drive 24,000 miles a year and get 15 mpg (which if you're driving that much it's probably highway and you're getting better mileage), then for the 133 gallons of gas you're using every month, the difference between 87 and 93 is ONLY $46 A MONTH!

You understand that if you drive less than 24,000 miles a year and/or get better gas mileage that figure is even less.

Don't be cheap.

I only use Mobil 93 octane, as the few cents you would save using a lower octane will not justify the performance loss; based on you buying a V, you want performance.
Also, I will presume economics is a concern from your questioning, therefore fuel economy would be also, so get a custom tune that would allow you greater MPGs than you currently get on the factory one to offset the higher cost of fuel.
My C6, with a ProCharger gets about 3mpg more on the highway since it was tuned. I am not a tuning expert, or a gasoline engineer, but know the custom tunes can be optimized for better fuel efficiency.

Worst that will happen is the knock sensors will pull a bunch of timing and kill power, hence why Cadillac is willing to let you run 87 octane in the 10.6:1 CR motor.

I've run plenty of 87 octane through my LS1, times were tough going back a couple months here, and 87 was the only option for a while!

Plus with lower octane gas dont you sacrifice quality of gas.

Lower octane = more deposits?
