Default 295s?

67+,

Check back to post #14 in this thread for the answers to your #3 & 4 questions.

You're right, wheel widening cost will run $160-200 (usually closer to $200), depending on the shop.

Simplest solution... BUY BETTER TIRES.

Because from what I've seen, the 295s on 9.5" stick out too far and look hillbilly. And the fender flares look ghetto.

So make the best of what you've got. In the long run, a good set of Pilot Sport 2s or even Nitto drag radials (depending on how you want to use the car) will cost you a lot less than all-new rims with generic tires.

For those skeptical of the Nitto DRs on a car with good suspension, I used to run the 305 variants on my TA GT. Granted, the suspension was completely replaced with bolt-on goodies, but it still handled like a go-kart on rails.

The nice/lucky thing is that the 305s fit inside the factory fender lip. I had previously ran Gen I Viper size 335 pilot sports, but they stuck out a little bit. So I burned through them and went Nitto.

Default Ditto

^^^I'm with you Tusc, except I did both (wider rims and wider tires).

IMHO, the 275/40 size, in a quality tire, on the right size rim, is as large as you need, especially given the fragile nature of the rear differential.

An F body is a better platform for a drag car, from most perspectives.

not sure who's car that is, but imo that looks stupid. not nice at all. i never thought you could rice out an american car.

Now now... let's play nice in the sandbox. We're all enthusiasts here.

I wouldn't do such a thing to my car, but that's no reason to bash someone else's pride and joy, eh? Run whatcha brung.

Tony Tone's the first person I've ever heard say that about Chef's car.

Just a heads gentlemen. I will be tearing the rear cradle out of the car and custom fabricating a set of curved (and MUCH BEEFIER) trailing arms. Luke @ Lindsay Cadillac will be getting something similar in soon. It appears with this mod we probably will be able to run 305/315s if not at least 295s. I will also be fabbing up a set of toe rods similar to the ones at BMR.

What Im saying is one way or another these will become available to all..

After tearing into the car it becomes apparent that the limiting factor in rim width (while still maintaining a stock backspacing) is the trailing arm, which is weak anyway. So I will be making them out of 1.5inch by .25inch steel tubing and using my handy dandy tubing bender to shape them something like a banana.

Who wants to run a 10 inch rim with stock backspacing and no possibility of spacers or poke?

Capown, I dont mean to be a dick, but your tires stick out. This shot shows it. Im trying to create a solution to where it looks factory, but you can run 315s

Heres the rear out of the car.

Of course now I have to figure out where my rims will be widened. I guess I better start calling around..

BMRs image actually shows how little room there is between the two..

Maximum allowed amount of "poke" with 315s as far as Im concerned.

When I was laying under my car yesterday I was looking at those. Definitely the limiting factor right now. 10" widened stockers would be awesome. Make these.

CTS-Voodoo.... I will eagerly wait to hear of your progress.

My only question is would the shape/bend you intend impart a structural weakness? Or would the stronger materials and rounding make it fine?
