Default Check Engine light issue

The CEL came on about a week ago, so I had it checked at Advance Auto and the code read bank 1 performance or something like that. I figuered it was on 02 sensor, but if anyone has any insight it would be greatly appreciated. Thanks in advance.

Car is running fine, no bucking or surging. As far as the actual code number, I didn't get a change to look at the screen, because the guy cleared it out. I turned the ignition off, and it was gone, but it came back the next time I cranked it up.

You're going to have a hard time correcting it if you don't know exactly what the code is.

Yeah, I'm going back up to Autozone this afternoon and get the exact code. It was late and they were about to close, so I figuered I would come back later.

The codes were P 0340 and 0341, anyone with experience with these codes. Says something like bank 1 perf cam sensor or something like that. Any help is greatly appreciated.

Coincindentally, I just diagnosed a 2000 Maxima with a P0340 code which resulted in a bad camshaft position (CMP) sensor. Replaced the sensor and everything is fine again. Always verify that the wiring is good before buying any parts.

Helps a lot to have the specific code.

Yeah, like Joe said, check the wiring to the sensor first before you replace it. The cam sensor is on the rear of the engine behind the back of the intake manifold.

Thanks for the replies, and I will definitely check it out. But the funniest thing happenned today while I was driving back from the gym...the light flicked on and then 10 seconds after the car was sitting idle, it turned off and never came back on. Even after I cranked the car up 3 times. Any help with that one? LOL

Almost the same thing here. The car I worked on would stall. After a few minutes it would start and run again. Intermittent.

...replaced the sensor everything works fine now.

Yeah the light is back on now, so it looks like the sensor is the culprit.
