I agree. It was a tainted victory for sure. Maybe the point to come away with is that Cadillac asked for volunteers to compete against the V2 and no one of any significance took them up on it. They should have made an effort to obtain a more credible field of challengers and provide a more level playing field. The RS4 and M3 are serious contenders. With the right drivers they could have been more competitive.

The kid with the M3 wrote about the experience on some BMW forum. In his opinion the cts-v is the faster of the two cars, he loved the torque compared to the M3, and he is considering one.
Plus there are also all of these wins:

and a second place finish that would have been a first if the tester had an auto trans

Just because there is a lack of competition doesn't make the victory tainted.

A victory none the less, and the V2 can certainly walk the talk. My point is that if I new nothing of the cars featured on the program, it appeared a bunch of unprepared amateur drivers were being stacked up against a factory sponsored media event in which the outcome was already known. Not being critical of the car, it has few if any equals, just the program.

they said "none of the manufacturers answered the challenge", thats y it was only the journalists and owners... i woulda liked to see a professional driving an M5, and an AMG E63... they shoulda let the M3 guy drive the V just to have a good comparison between 2 cars with the same driver... that track is near me, its private, they have trees all around so u can't even see in from the road...

It could very well be that he could have turned in a slower time than the M3 being as though it wasn't his car and it was his first experience with the V. Probably it was the smart thing for GM not to time him in the V. I think some of the posters here are missing the point. No one here is saying the V is a loser. But, you know how it became the car it is today? Because GM was not afraid to be critical of itself. It's through a serious respect of the competition that the car was rocketed to the top. It will always be a game of catch up between manufacturers. The V is definitely on top but not by much. That's good for us because the competition gives us a better product. I'm not convinced that all BMW and Audis owners are rushing out to buy a V because of this program despite the kid with the M3. They could have produced a more convincing show. They have the right car.
