Great job. I remember seeing the C3 retro fit a couple of years ago. I ALSO remember people complaining about the C3 diff being designed for a 300HP C3 Application and it wasn't worth the retro fit vs the Viper diff for example.

BUT HEY, PLEASE PROVE THIS WRONG FOR US. PLEASE MAKE SOME VIDEO'S OF THIS BAD BOY IN ACTION.

I've had a few guys ask us to make custom stubs and axles for different diff swaps in the V.
Another good option that can be found pretty cheaply and is very strong is the Nissan 300xz twin turbo center section.
I know its rice but it's cheap and strong, most come with 3.70 to 4.10 ratios with LSD.

Thanks
Chris

R200?

I know the R180 from the subaru/nissan land is a very stout piece, generally holding about 700wtq before exploding. The R200 is significantly larger/stronger. Never got to play with one though.

I PM'd chris asking about axles for a Viper diff swap and he turned me onto the R200. After some more research I found the Twin Turbo 300zx's use a R230. Which is bigger and stronger than a R200. Just FYI for everyone the number after R is the measurement in MM of the ring gear, so a R230 is about 9.1", larger than a Ford 9". When the swap is complete I think I will hold the title of running the largest diff, LOL.

The 300zx TT was also rather portly, weighing in around 3500lbs. While the Z doesn't make low torque like a Maggied CTS-V, they are capable of making good numbers and I've never heard of a Z blowing its diff. I won't know for sure till I actually get the diff installed and take the car to the track, but I don't expect any issues with the diff itself. In fact its not uncommon to swap a TT motor into a previously N/A 300zx that has the smaller R200 diff, even the R200 seems to hold up fine in these applications.

I picked up a R230 here in Houston for $150 and got a rear subframe/cradle from Ebay for $350. Im sure Axles and a Drive Shaft will be around $2k but that still leaves me around $2500 for a complete swap. I have access to a shop, tools, and experienced people so there will be no labor costs. Not many people have that luxury.

Thanks for posting pictures, you gave me some great ideas on how to mount my R230.

For what its worth, this V-8 topped with a Blower and dual quads is also running N2O, R-200 differential, and the drivers admit to not being ginger on their launches!

Shady,
I believe your pictured diff above is a R200, the "long nose" variety. They make long and short nose R200's but only short nose R230's. Anyway, I will have my spare cradle this week and hope to get a good portion of the fab work to mount the Diff to the cradle done this weekend. I will get pictures and start a new post of the progress.

Blake.

NVH report:
Quiet as new, no clunks, howling, vibrations or gear noise. Rides great, only the exhaust makes noise.
