Okay, so let's take a fork in the road:

considering all other things equal (year, color preference, etc.), would consider it smartest to pay:

a) $24k for a v with 50k miles
b) $20k for a v with 75k miles
c) $17k for a v with 100k miles

Bottom-line question is - how do relative miles affect relative cost? I'm basically looking at an '06 with 50k vs and '06 with 100k, and while I prefer the lower miles, the difference in price is very attractive. What are all the little odds and ends that wears on these cars (besides visual, cosmetic stuff) at high mileages?
I got mine certified with 43k miles for 17k before TTL... Clean car faqs too... I paid $475.00 to have it shipped from CO to TX because the same certified/mileage car locally was going for 23-26k and 3 to 9k miles more on the locals too...

I was happy with it. When I first came across my car in autotrader I went to sewell cadillac to see if they would match the price for the 06 with 46k but the lady flat out called me a liar! I tried to prove it by telling her to look it up on autotrader but when we tried finding my car it was gone! I ended up leaving but found my car on autotrader again! Turns out they were doing mantainence on the pictures.. I purchased the car and took a cruise to sewell to show that biatch the lower mileage certified V that she told me I was mistaken about..

2) 04s have a separate on star antenna on the rear window
3) 05+ have a pass airbag light visible in the rear view mirror
4) 06+ upgraded transmission redesigned shift lever and gear set with carbon reinforced gears in 1st, 2nd and 3rd for improved shift feel and crispness

also a good reference:
http://cadillacfaq.com/faq/answers/my-chart.html

Finally all the differentials are made of aluminum, there are 3 variants of the differential for the V1. The first is the standard 04/05 diff, the second is the standard 06/07 diff which has increased fluid capacity, larger cooling fins, and slightly more material in the pinion are of the differential, the third is the latest "08+" style of the differential, it is exactly the same as the 06/07 but has even more material in the pinion area as well as an upgraded pinion.
Good stuff Ted! You are always a wealth of good information!

Very nice, congrats!!

Who did you use to ship the car? I'm looking at having to do that myself most likely, unless I want to drive a few hundred miles.

We just bought ours outside of Atlanta.

2006 Platinum with the rare grey leather.
-pulled the service history and the part # on the diff to confirm it had the "gen3" diff
-Other than that, very minimal warranty work.
-34k miles

We paid 23K for ours out the door.

You lucky bastards...I paid 39k for mine...granted it only had 6k on it....but personally I'd go for lower miles...but you never know how the car was treated.

Yikes... but 6k miles is low. There's a 2005 stealth gray/black with 33k miles in VA for sale for 22 right now I'm making a play for.

Tim99 - that's not a bad deal either. Was that with taxes, title, and tags?

Nikon - how long ago did you buy your car?

Ashrdashr - I saw that one listed today also. Did you see the one on the Baltimore craigslist - same colors, pretty much the same miles, less money, and the listing said it still had warrenty left on it.

Here are some diff part numbers ...

Gen. 1st---- 10361308
2nd---- 12378261
3rd----- 15793756
4th----- 25873498

These are originally from darkman as posted by Stepside in the caddy forum. The first one apparently was put in only for a very short time period in '04 I believe. Be careful buying a diff on eBay if it's this PN 'cause I did see one on there brand new. I wouldn't give a nickel for one.

I've got the "3rd" one which was installed by the dealer in June, '07. Whines a little, but I have done a couple of clutch dumps at 3k RPM, then mashed the throttle only to bounce off the rev limiter in 1st gear while smoking the rear tires, and the diff is doing just fine. Doing that on a repeated basis, I don't care what car you've got, and most diffs are going to "talk" to you in one language or another.

Good info! I have a stock diff in my car from 04 i believe and i have an extra at the house in the garage in the box that came with it. I need to check both to see what i have...
