TSP Cam GP(anyone interested to join me?)
#23
that seems like a good price.....my guy at the dealership said gm book time for cam install is like 25hr. he said he could do it as a side job for 1300 plus 700 for cam from TSP and a tune at a local shop for 400-600.....so i'm looking at least like 2400. with the second kid on the way i may have to wait or find another qualified installer for less $$!

I would like to see what u guys would reccomend for me, I want a good size cam noticeable idle but i dont want to sacrafice driveability i would like to have close to or above 400 whp with the torque in same range but i dont want to twist my motor much over stock rev is this possible ? My vehicle is a 01 TA M6 95K miles i will have bolt ons to compliment cam
This is not the cam you want if you don't want to rev the motor out a good bit. You're looking at shifting at 6700 or so, peak will be around 6400-6500. Drivability will also suffer unless you have a very good tune, even then, it'll be a bit of a dog at low RPM.
For those wondering about pricing for install and tuning... first look at this, I recently did a cam swap and here's what I have invested...
TSP Cam kit with PAC 1518 valvesprings (good beehives, but wish I would have went with duals) -$600
OEM LS6 oil pump, ls2 chain, gaskets needed & crank bolt - $150
LS6 28lb injectors - $70 (I should have went bigger, I'm at 100% duty cycle.)
Tools I had to purchase, not likely you'll have this stuff around if you've never done it before...
Longer bolt to reinstall dampener - $5 from hardware store
Spring compressor (Tims tool) and air hose fitting - $60
5/16" Dowel rods - $10
That's a grand total of $895 in parts and tools... this was me doing it myself...
Also needed rtv, thread sealer, oil, coolant... adds up to another $100 in misc expenses...
Total - $995 installed by me
Tune by EFI Alchemy that included both dyno and drivability portion - $400
HOWEVER! At the dyno I had two bad O2 sensors and major exhaust leaks... If you're car is not in perfect order, dont bother taking it to the tuner. There will be things that need to be fixed. This stuff set me back another $220
In total I have over $1600 in my cam swap, doing the install myself.
Just food for thought.... also, there's no reason you can't do the install yourself if you're somewhat mechanically inclined.

after my pathetic performance at the track yesterday, i need more hp, lol... i'm interested in the TSP kit, but in the same boat as SkullV. I'd like to have 420rwhp with my current supporting mods or more if possible without having to wear earplugs... maybe i'll have ot get a head/cam package... who knows... Ted, your guys that are fixing Bob's car willing to cut a deal for 2 V's for an install? let me know what kind of pricing we'd be looking at if u think they'd be open to that... hit me up on here or cf, i won't have me new phone until wednesday...

Talk to an engine builder and get a custom grind cam, same price as one that is already cut. That way everything can be suited fotr your needs, well almost because your gonna sacrifice something. Main thing is the tune, an MS3 can be a daily driver cam as long as the tune is dead on.

That's subjective. The Tsunami cam can be 'DD' worthy with a good tune, but some people think something like a Torquer 2 isn't street friendly. A good tuner can get almost any off the shelf cam to work reasonably well, it's up to the driver and what they can tolerate that determines what's daily-driver friendly.
