Dumb question: alternator
What voltage would you expect to see the charging system putting out? I would guess over 14V and right about 14.4V is where it should be..
I ask because Ive had my car for 3 weeks now and noticed the voltage was about 14V +/- .2V.... I had to replace the 6year old ACDelco battery today...and the charging system currently reads between 13.8V-14.2V...sound about right? Just want to make sure the alternator isn't going south and going to ruin my new battery.
Thanks

A New and fully charged battery is 13.2 volts. There is 2.2 volts/cell.
So, the range you are observing is correct.
IF you do not use your car, for extended periods of time, it would be wise to purchase a float charger. Prices range from $30 to $100+.
