Exhaust Upgrade
I just got a 2007 CTS-V, while I am serving in Afghanistan (this should provide a nice fun time for me when I get back to the states). I am looking around online for an exhaust upgrade to install when I get home.
What is the best exhaust system or just mufflers to use to get the best sound?
Thinking just mufflers if i dont want to spend the 1,000 or more bucks for a cat back system.

A lot of guys are running just the resonator with no mufflers at all and love it. My V had a Magnaflow cat-back already on it when I bought it and I also love it. Apparently the stock exhaust is stainless so mufflers(or none) would be the way to go. It's what I would have done if my car had the stock exhaust. I guess it's just a matter of preference as far as the sound you are looking for. Stay safe over in the 'Stan. I'm headed to Iraq for a fourth time in a few months. My V will be sorely missed while I'm gone.

I replaced the resonators with an x-pipe and got rid of the mufflers and added 4" tips. I might have a total of $250 or so in my exhaust including labor and I love it. It might be a little louder than some like, but it is all personal preference.

I did the muffler delete with high flow cats (don't plan on running long tubes) and it sounds bitchen. I get compliments on how it sounds all the time and I have less than 500 invested including the high flow cats.

For what you are looking for all around I'd just go with a muffler delete + some 4" tips. My Magnaflow has the same effect, but once again you are looking for an economical solution. I just happened to have it on the car when I bought it.

after looking at everything (and listening to sounds clips and watching videos on youtube), and the fact that i am making OEF money...i bought a cat back system.
now i just have to get home to put all the parts i have bought (all 1700 bucks worth) and i havent even driven the car yet.

I just dropped the $1050 on a dual 3" B&B to match with my 1 7/8 kooks .
And they have a resonator option if its to loud for ones taste.
Should give some nice gains. Even tho everyone says 2.5 flows plenty , I gained 5whp from putting a cutout after the x-pipe . so we'll see

just a off the shelf comp 232/234 112 with .589 lift
The cam was $250 used and the patriot valve springs were $250 and rods were 100$.
install was done by me so free, but going rate out my way is about 2k for everything including a tune.

no prob, my b&B was on backorder and I found that guy off ebay while I was thinking of getting the magnaflow.. he gave me the link to that site which is his direct site. He had very good feedback so I know hes legit.
