Question Swapping 5 Lug Cts to 6 Lug CtsV-Part's List?

Howdy Gentalmen......

Heres the deal....I want to upgrade my stock Cts 3.6 Calipers/Rotors to those Purdy componets your boyz come stock with.....And ofcourse those purdy 18's and 20's you have are so much nicer then these 16 inch alloys haaaa

What will I need?

Obviously the 6 lug Hubs. Calipers, Rotors.

Do I need custom made Brake lines? Spindle modification?

Talk to me boyz...looking to get this done with Pics! in next month

Maybe find someone who did the opposite of you? It's pretty popular of people with CTS-V's to go from 6-lug to 5-lug.

I think when they go from 6 to 5, they need a specific year caliper and specific year rotor. The spindle is definitely a must, but this is also from a specific year. You would possibly need brake lines, but even if you don't you might consider installing stainless steel brake lines and solo bleeders while the system is open.

There is a FAQ on everything, you can use it in reverse order maybe? With 6 lug you will limit yourself on what rims you can get. What specific rims are you looking at getting?

I'd go with 2010 Camaro 5-lugs instead. They have basically the same stuff, except 5 lugs.

Chrome "stock rims" look good too. I don't know if they were an option or not from the factory. Check out my album if you want to see how they look.

It was, but I don't think it was very popular since I don't see very many with them. I have chrome stockers.

As others have suggested, you would probably be much smarter to use the Camaro SS brakes, which are the same as the V's, but retain a 5-lug pattern. Shifting to the 6-lug pattern to get better wheels is about the most bass ackwards suggestion I think I've ever read.

It's pretty popular to talk about switching to 5-lug, but I know of only 2 or 3 guys who have actually done the swap. I don't think I would rely on those few people for parts. Just go on Ebay or www.car-part.com and find some salvage parts.

not trying ot be negative or put down the work...just a little question that is in the back of my nugget...

why dont you just buy a used V1 call it a day? this is a lot of work and money, and no matter what you do a 3.8 CTS, it will still be a 3.8 and not LSx V.

I think this might be a better option...

well...my itch was scratched, so to speak.

you could always buy a 5 lug big break kit, rather to speading the money to change to a 6 lug. and buy keeping the 5 lug, you wont have the problems that us 6 lug guys have with our choice of wheels and brake changes.

with the camaro setup you get a common brembo rotor in a 5 lug setup. in our setup you get a common size in a not so common lug pattern. hence why get bent over every table when it comes to buying anything hub related ( brakes, wheels etc)
