So I ordered a Tremec TR6060
To see if it fits on the V. Got it from an 09 Camaro, $1000. If it works, I'm going to swap it out for my T56 (which tends to refuse 1st or reverse when stopped, which is really annoying). I know the tranny problems are probably clutch related, but when I eventually get the turbo(s) on, I want the drivetrain to be bulletproof. Hence the 6060, diff, axles, clutch eventually being bulletproof.
From what I understand, the bell housing is the same, the tailshaft is the triangular one, they are about the same length, the camaro has almost the same shifter mechanism, and physically they are about the same size. I have high hopes that it will fit with only minor modification.
Tomorrow, I'm getting my McLeod RST clutch in. I'm going to measure it up and figure out exactly what kind of modifications are necessary to get it working too. So far, I'm only $580 in the clutch and $208 in the chromoly flywheel. My thought was that it could be a fantastic twin disc option for small $$. Stay tuned.

good luck with this project. I always like seeing newer parts from other cars being dropped into an older car to make it better.
I did like that trans in the camaro, it felt very very nice. Keep track of what was done to get it to fit.

Most definitely. My main reason for doing this is because the car is my daily driver. Depending on how long the tranny would be at tick (I could drop it off, no shipping), and how many parts they would need to order to get the tranny back to new again, I could have this 6060 in the car in an afternoon hopefully. If not, I'll get the t56 built at tick and sell the 6060.
For some reason, I think that tick would charge much more than $1200 to get this thing built up to 6060 levels of power handling.

power handling is one thing, levels of refinement is a whole other. i am not sure if yo uhave driven a new camaro that has this trans.... light years better ( imho) then the t56 we have.

I had at least $1700 into my T56 getting it to level 2 status (600hp+ capacity) for my V. That is with me doing the labor. The V T56, is similar to the Vette and GTO, parts are much more expensive then a F-body etc T56. mainly the synchros, about twice as much money.
I have driven lots of 6060's they do have a much higher level of refinement in the feel and operation, but they are not immune to problems either. The synchros are sketchy, and upgrade parts are scarce as of now. The 2010 Camaro trans mount is exactly the same as the V, not sure on location though. I have a brand new 2010 shifter assembly if you need one.

I believe my brother has a 6060 in his 2011 GT, could be wrong....but at 4,000 miles hes taking it in for a rebuild already because 4th gear grinds already. Supposedly it was a manufacturing flaw in the early production of 6060s and they have to upgrade the syncros.

The center parts of the T56 are compatible but you might have to change something like the output shaft. This will help: http://www.eecis.udel.edu/~davis/z28..._Fbody_T56.pdf
Edmunds' Inside Line Long Term Camaro SS needed the trans rebuilt. http://blogs.insideline.com/roadtest...-baaaaack.html

Clutch measurements: On a Corvette LS1 flywheel from F1 Racing, part #82048FX with a McLeod Twin Disc RST clutch part #6912-07. Distance from crank mounting surface to pressure plate forks (where the throwout bearing pushes against): 86mm.
Does anyone have those same measurements for the CTS-V clutch? I need to see how much I need to shim the slave cylinder.
