Default About to pull the trigger on a cam. insight?

I have been wanting to install a cam for some time now, i love the sound of a "BIG" cam and when i say big i mean really big almost to the point where it is not wanting to idle. As bad as this sounds im not worried about alot of power gain i am more focused on achieving this specific sound. This is going to be a cam only car. Any help on finding what cam could achieve this would help me out.

mods on the car include kooks headers, B&B exhaust no cats, X-Pipe, K&N intake and a tune.

Thanks
Tim-

Any of the above will do what you want and make great top end power. MS3 sounds pretty good as well.

I heard the texas speed magic stick 4 recently and it sounds very nice too. Should be able to find a bunch of youtube videos of these. They make some good power too.

What are your goals for the cam?

I have the SNL v.2. Its a decent size cam that was designed around a 4000lb car, so the power is where you need is. www.snlperformance.com/home.html

If I were to do any other cam I would call the guys at Texas Speed.

I think for a caddy something in the 228-232 .612/.612 111+2 would be better for a heavier car like the caddy. It will still be pretty damn choppy and make way better power under the curve. I have basically the same cam in my c5z06 mines on a 113lsa tough not quite as choppy.

BINGO, make sure you keep this in mind. It's not like you have a light weight C5 Z06, which most of the "off the shelf" cams were spec'd for.

You need something with TQ in mind, I had a baby 219/225/561 114LSA, sounded nasty, rev'd fast and I could take the big cam'd V's and maggies V's.

Just go with a huge cam. My cam was designed for a 3300 lb car, and it makes my 4000 lb v run some serious times. U go with anything less than an MS3, you're going to regret it.

Rule of thumb for a cam is after you pick one out, go one step bigger.

Whisler, do you have any problems with your cam and the lightweight flywheel? I have a 16.5lb flywheel going in and my cam is a little bigger but on a 113 lsa so the overlap is almost identical.

In stop and go traffic it can get annoying, but I think that is the same with any manual car. I had the 18lb flywheel for about a year before I did the cam so there wasnt any real change. If you did both at the same time I would expect you to have problems. But as long as you are used to the way the car drives with the flywheel you will be fine.

I love mine. It is the Thunder Racing RapTR cam. 236/242 .615/.615 111. All cams this big will take a bit of time logging and tuning to get it as drivable as stock. Mine pulls w/o bucking from 1000rpms on up and the power really kicks in over 3k. It is a lot of fun.

12.1 missing 4th gear trapping 116-117 mph. n/a. Cam only.

12.2 on nitrous trapping 124-125 mph. On a 100 shot, spinning all through 1st and 2nd.

With the baby seat in the car, and the stroller in the trunk.

Now this is what im looking for, this sounds really good. How difficult was it to get the tune right?

Nice times! All my track times include the baby seat mod as well.

It just takes some patience and some know-how. If you haven't done any tuning before, you might get someone who knows how to help you with it.

I'm a bit down on power (only dyno'd 392) but I think I have other issues going on on top of needing more intake and bigger injectors. Others with this cam are making a lot more power on the dyno with similar setups. If you go with this cam, a FAST intake will help out a lot.
