Just called. Those 9" kits are made to order. I don't have time for that, so it's out of the question.

So if I'm looking through salvage yards for a carrier, which one is ideal? I'll try to get them to throw the driveshaft in too.

I would look for an 06-07 unit if possible, they were the strongest factory units available but are still weaker then the latest GEN 4 unit that GM now sells. I do not think there has been a reported "breakage" type failure with the 06-07 versions or GEN 4 units, however there are still complaints about gear whine so the case is still getting stressed. My 1.5 yr old GEN 4 with about 10k miles has a slight whine around 50 MPH.

Stay away from the 04-05 units (3 different PN's I believe, make sure you Google the PN before buying) or you will end up with a second nightmare. Some of these things snapped under normal driving. The axles will help the newer units survive by eliminating wheel hop, but the older ones just did not have enough material to keep them together.

I found a good deal on a NEW carrier. The part number is 19178784. I don't know which gen this is though. Anyone have a clue? I'm searching in the meantime.

haha it should be on the driver sun visor. I would wait and upgrade, the OEM Diff case will allways be a weak spot even with built CVs and Axles.

Call Creative steel about their 8.8 ford IRS kit. the Geforce 9 needs fab work anyway.. the 8.8 will bolt right up with Max's brackets.. stock drive shaft stays and i dont know what the solution is for axles but your were already spending 1g+ on the DDS axles..

I think that may be a standard 6 cyl Diff, or the SUV...it is an active GM number for only $930, I would not use it. I would go ahead and get the latest GEN 4 unit for the car.

Nobody makes 1 piece drive shafts for our cars except G-FORCE...and it has to be CF to not have vibrations. There are stronger 2 piece drive shafts available...but only built to order.

Great. I'm learning really quick here.

I am on the phone right now. Ordering a 25873498 (Latest Gen). I found one in a wrecked car that had only 1900 miles on it. Got it for $1000 shipped to my door two day air. Not bad, right?

Now, I gotta get the axles and driveshaft going, and I might be back in this baby Wednesday.

You guys rock, BTW. Thanks for helping out a brother. For some background, I've got a wife and a 2 year old son. We're changing up a lot in our life, so in the past 2 weeks I've sold 3 cars and a house. We're packing up everything and moving from TN to CA. So right now, we are a 1 car family (currently a ZERO car family). Once we get out to Cali, we'll get her a car. But this is really a bad time for me to have been a dumbass and broke this thing all to pieces. I appreciate all the help.

Ok fellas. On to the driveshaft. Mine is busted in half.

Since I'll have an '07 carrier/diff but an '04 trans (not that I know of any difference), what year of a driveshaft should I get? '07? Will it work? Anyone know? I've read that there's a difference in the pinion or something, but I don't know what that is even.

HA! $100,000.

I'll call them and see if they have it in stock. Any negatives to this? I can get a used driveshaft for $275. Don't know what the real benefit is though.

Diff and Axles will both be here the day after tomorrow. The DSS driveshaft isn't ready yet though. Talked with Lee there. Very nice guy.

So I'm back to finding an OEM driveshaft... Now we'll DEFINITELY be doing a build/install thread...

Crap. Does anyone know if the 25873498 (Gen 4 diff) has different axles? When I ordered my new axles from Thomas at Hendrix, I had a 2004 diff at the time. Oh please let them work for both...

Drive shaft and axles are the same from 04-07 (except the later axles are larger shaft diameter, but the stubs are the same)...the carrier bearing and the flex coupler are the wear items to check for on the D/S. I am sure the wife is really happy right now...lol...we have all been there brother!

She's used to it but it still pisses her off. I've wasted so much money modifying cars... breaking cars ($225k Porsche into a tire wall at VIR, for example... blew up the same engine with a supercharger on it... etc). Still, it's not something that we talk about.

Here's where I am now - 25873498 Diff will be here Thursday. $1000.18 shipped. About to order a driveshaft, now that I know there's no difference. And then, there's the axles.

I just got off the phone with Thomas of Hendrix Engineering. That dude called me back despite the fact that he's on his honeymoon. (My wife probably isn't near as upset as his!) He's taking extreme care of me. He's just worked with DSS to make sure that the axles go out tomorrow, which is a really quick turnaround. He also confirmed that they will work in a Gen 4 diff. I really like this guy, fellas.

So, at the end of all this, I should have a pretty reliable setup. Still, I won't be just dumping the clutch anymore. Just didn't know better. I'm new to the V world.

Driveshaft's a comin'.

All in all, I'm in for less than $3500 with badass axles, a driveshaft with 91,000 miles on it, and a Gen 4 diff with less than 1,000 miles on it... All here by Thursday. That's shipping included on everything.

That's not bad, right?

Was looking for Delrin or Poly bushings for the subframe mount and thought I'd call BMR to see if they had any. Nope. Anyone know where these can be bought? I did however just order the BMR Pinion Brace. I need to not ever go through this again, fellas. Trying to do it right!

I think sub-frame bushings were an item that was popular before axles hit the market to fix wheel hop, don't remember much about them as I got my V when the axles were available. GM had a TSB to install plastic washers in the mounts in a half-assed attempt to try to help wheel hop. The axles get rid of about 99% of the hop according to most who have purchased them and all other "remedies" have now become pretty much obsolete.

Creative Steel offers a poly mount for the nose of the carrier to replace the OE sponge. He also has motor mounts, you will need those soon also as the OE ones are hydraulic and the drivers side tears open like tissue paper. They are a must have when you install headers...FYI.

Welcome to hell! LOL
