Do also know that Lidar guns require a much more head on tag then radar. I forget the sweep but i think its only 10-15 degrees off of center for a clean read.

BTW V1 is the best portable non installed radar detector hands down. Other might talk to you or learn traps. The V1 is still the BEST in detection of radar.

^^ EF'en A on that... I love knowing where the radar is coming from. The other day I got shot from behind and was able to slow it down whereas if I had a detector without directional arrows I wouldn't have reacted half as fast. My v1 has more than paid for itself in the 2+ years I've owned it.

great deal, before you buy it tho make sure the Valentine upgrade feature transfers to you. IT might only be for the original purchaser..

I have a V1 but im sure there are other detectors that are just as senative. But with a V1 you get those sweet arrows to tell you what direction to look

i used the wires from the Cadi FAQ and a safe n sound cord w/ inline fuse.. i didnt feel like messing with a phone cord to make my own..

Here's my setup. Just got my first ticket in 11 years....of course I was in my GFs car and didn't swap it over before we left for vacation

Its all Lidar here in the ATL metro area but I've lived here my whole life so I know where they hide. Out on the open road this thing has saved me not from tickets, but rather from jail on numerous occasions

One day I really want to get a laser jammer/shifter as well as radar. Just drive arround immune all the time. Have it wired to a delay relay or switch. So I can turn it off after slwoing down and not get the bigger ticket

License plates are the main point of aim since they are reflective and perfectly flat. But chrome is blinding in the sunlight haha

I think Im on my 3rd or 4th v1 now, cant remember that far back! Anyway, love the freaking thing. Has paid for itself MANY times over. Always leave the volume UP. This is the loudest detector made, I believe. I just sent mine in for a re-tune. Seams my local police have wisened up and are using "P" band, which is supposed to be illegal. They are using it and writing tickets ANYWAY. Cost me $150, but now I "see" the bastards every single time before they pick up my signal. As far as lidar, V1 has saved me twice. Both times state cops (Massachusetts) shot the car in front of me, and it passed through and set off my alarm. Both times guy in front of my got pulled over, so I know this is what happened! I have replaced multiple cords, the little clips on the end like to get caught up and break, then they wont stay in the hole. These are STANDARD telephone cords. Yesterday I went to K Mart and bought a 7 foot with clips on both ends for $3.50. Valentine wants $35 or some ridiculous price for a new one. OR you can buy a kit that crimps the plugs onto the cords for about $15 at Radio Shack. My son lives in LA and drives a Charger SRT8. Couple years ago I bought him (I think) Escort top of the line model. His has GPS that tells you where all the cameras and red light detectors are, valentine does not offer this. He drive LA to Vegas a lot, so that works well for him.

I've been thinking of doing the hardwire install on mine but in the mean time I also bought two six foot cords from Wally World and have mine plugged into the rear 12v outlet and ran the cord(s) through the center console. I like this because I can take it down in a hurry (needed to do this just last week) in case I do get stopped. I have a concealed display on my steering column so it's not lit up from behind... nothing worse than being followed by "the man" when he's running a "constant on" unit and it's blinking arrows and dots.

I also saw a cop using X- band out in the middle (central) of NYS while away last weekend... thought X- band was never used which reminds me of the V-1 slogan... “never excuse an alarm until you identify the boggy” (now I sound like a V-1 salesman... lol).

Got my V1 close to three years ago. At the time, it was about $80 to update a used one. Decided to buy new anyway and you really can't appreciate the arrows till you use them.

As stated above, it can warn you of laser if a car gets tagged ahead of you. But you gotta be lucky though.
Also, mirror mount is a must, love mine.

Buy it. That's a great deal. Mine's one of the later updates (1.8 I think?) but I've used a v1.7 too and they work great. Hard wire to the mirror is a must... plugging in to the outlet ahead of the shifter sucks... I had mine there temporarily and banged my knuckles on the plug in when shifting into 3rd and 5th.

If you can get a V1 for $175 DO IT!!! Thats a damn good deal, for a damn good radar detector. The V1 isn't the top dog any more, but it's a close second when it comes to performance.
