Wrong !CAGS kit? Possibly.
But, I'm not really sure . . .
I bought a kit from Ebay, said it'd work on any T-56. Apparently, the only plug this thing fit was NOT the right one. Car didn't throw any codes, kept 1>4 shifting me during testing, and didn't notice any other problems.
Meh, $20, but I really want that CAGS gone!

get a tune. i would take the car to SNL, and have Matt tune the car. He has done serval V tunes, and all of them turned out awesome. And if I remember correctly, the guys at SNL will give you a discount on each tune you do there after.

"I don't want to hear about the messed up paint on a spoiler when my car needs struts."
Granted, while it does make more safety sense to get hers done, it was an all or nothing for my car. Figured to get it all painted simultaneously.

Did the one you have burn up... or did it arrive like that?!
I used this kit and it worked perfectly:
Ebay CAGS Kit
I seem to recall reading that the reverse lockout uses the same style plug, and if you put the CAGS kit on the wrong plug it would disable that instead. Did you try shifting into reverse at 70mph? My kit gave pretty explicit instructions on plug location and wire color.

The V usues a different CAGS than the other cars (Vette, Camaro, etc). I found this out in my research and sought one out for the Cadillac specifically. Here's the one I got:
http://cgi.ebay.com/ebaymotors/ws/eB...m=270706973504
Plugged in and workless flawlessly, I specifically verified that the 1->4 message comes on, but I cna pop it right into second, works like a charm.

The real issue might be your stick-to-it-iveness. If you throw down the coin for a tune now, and end up selling/totalling the car, get caught up in the rapture, whatever... You paid a lot to get rid of CAGS and gain a few hp.
I plan on doing at least a cam later, but who knows. I bought the $20 eBay kit.
