high output alternator?

A friend here in the auto electric business says that it may be possible to switch out the internals (he called it a "guts swap") on the V alternator for something with a bit more amperage.
You will be limited though, as the V has a unique housing and he said that beyond a certain output point, the housings have different internal dimensions, making the "guts swap" impossible.
