The white cap is covering what needs to be cut. Basically, you don't need any of the pinion that extends past the pinion nut. The Flange is a three bolt flange on most of these differentials. The V diff uses a round flange with 6? bolts. This picture is an early version diff. The late version has way heavier ribbing on the top.

Late design. This is a new/unused non-posi 3.91 GM 19178779 that I bought on eBay for $300 shipped. I'll combine that with a craigslist $40 posi unit to replace the one that's currently in my car. I reused my old R&P in a new style case. The ring gear had a smash on the coast side of the gear. The rearend is silent on drive but thumps lightly on coast.

Hey fellas I have a diff from an 06 srx opt gt4. Now I'm undersranding that all I need to do is cut off the pinion shaft and swap out the limited slip by taking off the ring gear and putting the old one in?

It just depends which generation (there are 4 I believe). You can actually get a newer gen regular CTS housing and it will be beefier than a first gen V housing. And yes you can probably pick one up for $150, but it won't have 3.73s (only the CTS V-series offers 3.73)...and the gears for these things are super expensive for whatever reason. So essentially you are spending an extra $100, give or take, for the 3.73s offered in the SRX.

Agreed. I would jus get the latest replacement which is the GEN IV. After 500 mile break in, change the fluid to RedLine rear gear lube and you're set.
You should be able to source the new diff from any GM dealer or reseller. The cost is $1600 US.
You won't need a brace with the GEN IV. Just do not drag race it with slicks.

Directly, no. But apparently, the rear subframe from the V2 will bolt up under a V1, thus allowing the V2 differential to fit.
This has not been attempted to my knowledge, but unlikely as the V3 is a very different platform. Although, we do have a member here with both who could shed some light on it.
