For 500 I see your point, but if Kooks are your only option they are dam expensive.

I don't think people have had anymore trouble with them than with kooks. Just a lot of kooks nutswingers on here. As far as not being able to get them anymore that would suck since they were half the price and worked just as well.

Default Gutted cats?

Has anyone tried to just gut the stock cats instead of replacing them with straight pipes? Seems that the cost (free), would make this worth while to try and it seems the gains would be better than high flow cats.

I gained about 22rwhp adding 1 7/8" kooks on my Maggie ls6... Boost went from 8.5 to 6.5... More efficient and less stress on the internals is a plus

To be honest. Id go with lt headers. You can get pacesetters for as cheap as $270 and full on coated ones, shipped for $380. I got mine in one business day.

They say hollowing or "gutting" the cats hurts performance. Exhaust gasses became turbulent as they pass into the cat's open reservoir, actually increasing backpressure and hurting power. Straight pipes or hi-flow cats are the only way to go.
