With headers there's really not a way to get around cutting into the cat-back if you want cats. The collectors come together right where the stock setup mates with the cat-back. They're designed like that so they'll bolt up to a stock exhaust in a catless setup.
Hey, I'm bringing an old thread back. Looking to do engine mounts soon so I might as well put some headers on while I'm at it. I don't need cats and what I would prefer is to not cut the stock system. I've been getting mixed answers on this.

Will pacesetters with their extensions bolt to the stock cat back without cutting it? Similar for the OBX, will the headers bolt to the stock catback without cutting if their mid pipes aren't used?

Big thanks for the info

I am about to buy Pacesetters, and you have to cut off a little and put the cats in and weld.

Pacesetters: Only cutting and welding required if you want to reuse your stock cats.

If not, it'll bolt on to your catback if you get the off road extensions that clamp on to your collectors.

It will, however, slide your catback rearwards about 1-1.5 inches.

Are you sure about that?

The offroad pipes show a collector side and then a straight pipe side, which would either need to be welded or clamped to the existing pipe.

This can only be done by cutting off the flanges that bolt to the cats???

Please school me.

I can cut and weld and I am putting in SLP cats, but either way it is good to know the info from someone who has actually done it rather than pure speculation.

Thanks in advance?

This. I'm on Pacesetters with cat delete, into the extensions into stock catback. Bolted right up.

Same here, although I need to find some cats that can be welded in and a way to do so. Pacesetters with of road extensions fit up perfectly with my magnaflow exhaust but catless it can get a little annoying on the highway.

Yep, it's fact. There's a photo of that somewhere - but the few people here have already agreed with me.

I was thinking these were normal adapter with the bolt end towards the collector instead of the other way. Makes sense now.

And further more, IMO welding IS required to do it correctly.

But I better buy me some clamps!

Nothing better then getting out of your Cadillac smelling like exhaust.

Thanks guys awesome help. Those were the pictures i was trying to find. Looks like I will go the pacesetter route and wrap them and see how long they last. I can weld the extensions to the headers and maybe shorten them up a little bit. I don't know why I don't want to cut the stock exhaust, I guess I just want it to bolt in. Should make putting a cat back on later easier as well.

I still don't get the exhaust smell thing. 98cobra, was this something you noticed on your car?

The clamps used above are great but CAN leak.

No brother, we are referring to using clamps that close to the front of the vehicle.

Clamps can leak and then the exhaust fumes can get inside the vehicle even with the windows up....usually through the vent areas.....

IC. Must be terrible. Not having a welder of your own or near by to weld those up that is!

Long story short there are no headers which dont require either cutting or welding. Exhuast coming into the car makes welding required IMO.
