Guess you are right about that "expensive builds" but seems stupid to do it on a 20 thousand dollar car. but just my 2 cents. Just wish some ppl on here could get together to get us a good deal on that $900 hood. Which i still think is rediculous compared to the hoods for any mainline sport car on ebay. 500-600bills. But the power of supply and demand once again prevails to get suckers like us to dish out a cool g. (Hell knows what they want for shipping on top)

well i think normally people build parts for a vehicle based on its new vehicle price, thinking its owners are in that price bracket. and some of the V1 guys are beyond its initial price bracket so they will make this part for them.

You can buy crap fiberglass hoods all day long but they don't last and quality is awful. I'm not trying to sell you anything but considering a v1 hood project. Every time I've tried to cut corners, I've spent more making it right. The v1 is an icon that started a new era and IMO deserves quality parts. Resale sucks for you guys, not sure why other than the bar being raised so much with v2 hype and stats but the v1 will always be that raw yet refined powerhouse sedan.

the V1 was not a competitor to the m5

and i really think our resale sucks because of the diff issues being tlked about and people who owned them new didnt do anything with aside from turn them into garage queens. people never saw them.

the new v2 has no drivetrain issues and gm made sure they put it up against cars in its class and also went up a class to challenge the M5.

E39 M5s were out years before Vs were so I don't get the new era comment. If anything they played catch up to a 400hp sedan.

having a v8 doesnt put a vehicle into a different class.

the v8 s4 didnt stop competing with the m3 just because it had a v8...

the base cts/3/a4/c are all in the same class. were back in 04 and still today are in the same class. that doesnt mean that a vehicle cant compete up or down a level but it doesnt change what class its in.

The 1st generation CTS-V was most certainly an E39 M5 competitor. More often than not, it was compared to the E46 M3, however, that was never a quite a proper or direct comparison. The CTS-V was larger in size and had much more engine. The E39 M5 was a much more linear comparison. Specs and performance were nearly identical across the board, with the CTS-V slightly nudging out the E39 M5 in the performance region.

why would gm build a car to compete with a vehicle that no longer is in production? you are reaching if you think thats the case.

this is getting way off topic. we made more power because our car was fat. but look at track times for a e46 m3 compared to us. the e39 was not a track vehicle, it was a long distance high speed autobaun vehicle. it out weighed us by nearly 200lbs. ( granted we also out weighed the class performance leader by nearly 200lbs)

both cts editions have always been stuck between the entry level luxury market and the mid-size segment. the ats main job is to move the cts up a class to compete with the 5/e/a6. Thats even been said by gm.

I mean there was no 4 door m3 yet the c55 and the s4 competed with it while having different body styles.

Media toss vehicles together to gain sales. due to its ring time gm is pitching the ZL1 as a cheaper alternative to the r8 gt, sls and a few other vehicles. that doesnt put them in the same class.

Saying the V didn't start a 4 door American tuner addiction is like saying the Vette was just another car on the road too...

debatable... Cool car but a dressed up Capri that lasted one gen before they ruined it and other than its reminiscence of American heritage, wasn't purpose built and that's probably why its future derailed

Opted for open drip trays on surface vents

Enjoy
I am extremely interested in this style hood even without the vents for my V1.

Did anything end up being made for this option?

Don't forget the Grand Prix GTP. There was a huge following when that was around and several tuners pushing that car into the 9-second range. Not saying that car started it, but I haven't seen a comparable 4-door "addiction" since the GTP.

Each time I go to a car show, I see the same kind of excitement with the Mopar guys...300s and Chargers even though they're not as strong in the aftermarket. It takes every resource I have just to get 4 Vs to an event. That said, glad to see the V2 guys turn out in good numbers to road events like the Texas Mile. I'll be joining them soon.

I'm surprised that you have problems getting people to go out there in Texas. Seems to be a much higher density of CTS-Vs there. Shame that I'm out here in Connecticut.
