I have been tossing the idea around also, I would say the N/A cars could go with 4.10's or higher, but for Maggie cars they are useless. Hell, the first two gears are useless with the 3.73's.
If I go this route, I would do 3.55's or 3.42's with my Maggie. Did the same thing in my 5.0 back in the day...started with 4.10's, went to 3.73's, and finally 3.55's and it went faster every time. If you're making good power, give it some load.

$250...****, why not. worse case it has more miles breaks, then buy a new 8.8 pumpkin from a pick-n-pull (or other place) and get new gear set. there is an *** load of gear sets for the 8.8.

4k...depending on the power, tires, and surface...maybe, haha.
most power guys with V1s have, you will be fine on any surface with DRs or Streets.
Most guys with the 03-04 Cobra are fine with around 700 whp and DRs and the strip.

It sounds like in this case, the 4.10's are the way to go because it's cheap and already set up. But if you were making an apples/apples choice, I think the downside to higher gears is the tires. You can't put a ton of tire under the V. Lower gearing is only a help in drag racing if you have traction.
Once you are past about 20mph, the acceleration will be basically the same with any gearset. You gain some at the low end of the gear's speed range, but give it up at the top (because you shift to a higher gear sooner). So if you can't put that 0-20mph or so to good use with traction, you aren't gaining anything.
