Default rear broke

So what's the damage like when you have to get a new one installed? Any Maryland, DC, Virginia guys had to do this yet? Wasn't driving the car hard but hit a good section of bumps and the traction light came on and i felt the wheel hop so i got off the gas and it was to late... Any help or suggestions would really help right about now.

Thanx
D

Give Luke at Lindsay a call, He will get you the best price on a new unit. Install is not that bad, if you are handy with tools you should be able to handle it.

What ever you do...do not rebuild. Thats like putting a band aid on a stab wound...

Just get a new (or slight used one to save a few bucks), and throw that in there.

Or...if you have the extra cash, buy an 8.8 from CS and throw that bitch in there.

If you can get it to Lindsay, that is the way to go. Those guys are the V gurus of Caddy dealerships. Luke is the parts guy, he will take care of you.

$1200 labor?! That's ridiculous! warranty time for that job is 3.4 hours. Cash time should be around 5.5-6 the MOST. So unless your dealer charges $200 an hour for labor, you're getting porked.
$1593 for the diff alone isn't too bad though. List price at my place is $2827.

if your car is out of warranty, dont be going back there for any type of work. they are major ripoffs man. max should be $600 for install a new diff and $1400 for the new diff. Get either hendrix engineering or G-force anti wheel hop axles when you install that new diff. You dont want this to happen again so whats another $500 for axles.

You will not have much luck finding a V rearend used. If you did it would be very suspect.

If you plan on keeping this guy for a while, and have the cash, you could always upgrade the diff. Somewhere in the 5K range for parts for a 9 or 8.8.

The only identical diff is from another V.

I believe you can find regular CTS that will bolt in, but the gear ratio is different and the limited slip is different as well

Sorry, but this is an expensive platform, no easy way around it.

Just go with a 8.8 or 9" diff and call it a day no need to keep replacing the diffs

Let me know if you need a hand. Call up to Ourisman Chevy and ask for Travis. Tell him you know Big Chris, and he'll give you the lowest price possible (his price is less than Lindsay's).

If you can swing it, I'd get the 8.8"
