I see temps even reaching 210 at times when I'm at idle on a hot day. Usually Im in at 198 or so. This varies between every v man depending on what they have done to the car, your pump, thermostat, stock or aftermarket radiator etc.

He's driving a Vee 6. Maybe LS tech isn't the right forum to get answers.

Stock stat - fans lowered a little. 195 most days. Oil will creep around 210 on a hot day.

Suppose mine is prob the same as yours. Pretty sure my buddy had them turn the fans on at a lower temp when he had it tuned but the stat is still stock on mine as well.

160f thermostat and lower fan.

In the morning my car runs about 177f on the 26 miles to work (no traffic).
After work in traffic and hot weather car runs about 210f in traffic and 196f in open air.

Mine always sit at 192 when it's moving. If I am sitting still or in traffic it bumps up to around 210-215. I have seen it as high as 230 before but the gauge is just barely above the halfway mark.

Yea I've seen mine hit 230 once in traffic and 117 outside... Not a good combo. I tossed in a 180 stat and the fans turned down to 195... Works well when the weather is fair, but summer time it doesn't matter its gonna be hot since the radiator is the same

Even with a RD radiator i run about 195 cruising, no higher than 202 in traffic though. Stock therm, fans come on earlier though.

160* Thremostat and lower fan...I am normally running in the 174-177 range, and on really hot afternoons i will creep into the mid 180s. I rarely see 200+, the last time I did was yesterday. 107* Ambient Temp, outside temp on the DIC said 123, and i was sitting in a line to get off base. Full A/C going, and the highest my water temp got was 201.

Just to be crystal......

Are we talking about the dial guage on the bottom left of the instrument panel, or one of the digital ones you can toggle through?

Hmm this has got me a little worried. My wife's car while sitting in the drive will hit up tot 230* and then drop down the 200s then rise up again and then drop down. This happens over a couple minute cycle. Cruising it sits at 180ish-195. Think maybe the thermostat is sticking?

We just went through this discussion over on CadillacForums, I'm not sure why everybody is getting excited about coolant temps around 220-230F. cadillacfaq.com has a great write up from StealthV regarding when the stock fans turn on and off. If you look at the stock settings you can see that they don't even bother turning the second fan on until 235F.

Sarg, the temp cycle that you are seeing is probably from the fan cycling on/off. From the data below it turns on at 226F and runs for 50 seconds minimum at which point it turns off if the current temp is below 219F. Then it probably takes another minute or so to heat back up.

From cadillacfaq.com
At what temps do the Fans turn on in the V?

Short answer: with No A/C on Fan #1 comes on at 226 F

Long answer: The V has a two “Series Parallel Fans” operating at different stages.

The following temperatures are in °F, Speeds are in MPH, Delays/Times are in seconds and Pressures are in PSI.

Fan #1 Turn on temp 226 F
fan #1 turn off temp 219 F
Fan #1 turn on by A/C temp 185 F
Fan #1 turn off speed 35 MPH
Fan #1 Turn on speed 30 MPH
Fan #1 Minimum Turn on time 50 seconds
Fan #1 Run on Temp 246 F
Fan #1 Run on Time 120 Seconds
Fan #1 A/C Pressure enable 210 Psi
Fan #1 A/C pressure disable 160 Psi
Fan #2 Turn on temp 235 F
Fan #2 Turn off temp 227 F
Fan #2 Minimium on time 26 Seconds
Fan #2 A/C pressure enable 260 Psi
Fan #2 A/C pressure disable 210 Psi
BOTH off 90 MPH

thanks StealthV

Andringa, you beat me too it. Thought I was going to be able to pay it forward by reposting your CF.com post.
