Supposedly there are a few cases of the dampener causing issues with chains as well don't recall the brand people had issues with but they experienced broken chains as well.

I agree with that on a theoretical basis. An undersized (or stock) damper combined with a lightweight flywheel and a tuned-up motor will allow very large transients on the chain as each cylinder fires. If true, this breakage is kind of like the case of the paper clip bent and unbent one too many times--eventually, all of those minor deformations add up and the tensile strength of the steel erodes away to nothing.

I ran an ls2 chain on two builds without issue and have seen plenty of cars run them. Most guys dont do double roller cause it requires grinding down the timing cover for clearance and its usually not worth the trouble.

That is weird since even the stock chains look beefier than the old SBC and BBC chains. Those chains ran a fuel pump, distributor, and oil pump and I haven't heard many if any cases of them breaking. of course we are talking LS engines.

That's weird because there is only one spot on the cover that needs ground down (the boss on the back side of the sensor bolt) and it only took me 10 minutes. Maybe there is more on an LS6 cover, but it's still not really that scary. The modifications to the windage tray are way scarier. Lol

Radeon - How much noise was it making when it was cranking? I would have to imagine that a chain flopping around the oil pump would be making quite a racket. If you wiped out a cam lobe, the lifter would be tapping like crazy and most likely not be completely gone all at once and there would have been some warming signs/noises. Take the valve covers off and take a look around, then pull the accessories and front cover.

Hopefully the motor isn't shot, but if it is I think it's a sign that you need to go bigger. Good luck sir.

Lol, yea I know its not a big deal but when you can throw 49 dollar ls2 chain in there without touching anything with a grinder it appeals to way more people sicne the benefits of a double roller dont really mean much to a lot of builds.

i went out to take the valve covers off, and saw some compressed springs, so i decided to just do a little more. 8 hours later, the radiator, water pump, intake, heads, etc, were all off, and sure enough, bent *** valves, and thank the sweet lord: the pistons are fine. looking to see what the next step with the heads are.

If I didn't have the cathedral port fast 102, I'd consider something like that.

So you have stock 243 heads right now and you need new ones?
