Default Air compressor

Since i know most of you have much more shop experience than me i was hoping someone could recommend me a good air compressor that wont break the bank? Just looking to run a few simple hand tools like impacts, drills, and mayb angle grinders. Thanks in advanced

The small Craftsmen works great for me.

Harbor Frieght. Got mine 5 years ago and is still going strong. I got the 80 gal twin cylinder...think I paid $350 or so, I think they rang up the wrong thing.

I've had a craftsman model:

For 10 years or so.

The current model looks like:

The big plus to these "professional" models are the speed at which they refill and the top pressure ratings.

They go on sale from time to time, keep an eye out on the sears flyers.

I prefer impact / drills to be 18v Lithium cordless over Air compressors and impacts.
the Bosch impact i have takes off lug nuts with ease.
You can get them with up to 650 Nm (tear your wrist off)

I had a compressor impact with all the bits, and I prefer the Cordless with 3/8 and 1/2" adapters. No bulky tank, hose, oiled guns etc. Compressed air itself however, does come in handy for cleaning etc.... I do miss that.

The real trick is having enough volume. IMO, the bigger the tank the better. If you have another air pig lying around, it's also a good idea to daisy chain it into the system for a little more volume, and for some ready-to-go portable air when needed.

I have had a Campbell Hausfield 6HP 60 gallon tank for about 15 years. I have sanded and painted probably 10 cars and ran countless air tools. I bought it at Tractor Supply for around $500. DO NOT buy a oilless compressor, they are fragile and loud in short pure junk. I would check craigslist for a better quality used one rather than a new chinese one.

THIS. Do not buy oiless, it is really not worth it.

It really depends what you need to run. I recommend doing some searching over at garagejournal.com (they are a great source for any shop tools/garage setup type questions)

If you want a REAL Compressor forget about craftsman. All they are good for us airing up tires.

Get a Quincy and then you will never buy another one again. They are more than worth the money.

Try to tptools.com.

I have a craftsman that works well enough. I don't use it every day and it's more than adequate for the relatively light jobs I do use it for. If I was using air tools on the daily, either for a job or a serious hobby, I'd opt for a higher-end industrial caliber unit.

I have a 2 hp 33 gallon Craftsman. It is only good for my 1/2, 1/4 inch impact guns, filling tires, blowing small amounts of air. If you need to use a 3/8 air racket, air chisel, sander or drill you'll need a much larger capacity compressor and something other than a craftsman.

honestly any one will be fine...

its all in the airgun

I just went through this and have chronic back pain to prove it. Air tools are a must and you should spend a decent amount on a good gun with a good torque rating ~300$

Not true at all.

If you don't have enough volume of air then you will be spending your life waiting around for your Compressor to catch up. And then after it catches up a few time,s you will need to wait for it to cool down.

Either get a weight bench and build some muscles or buy a BIG Air Compressor.
