why would you not use the t56 mag as it comes from tremec? the only reason i can see to use the 5000$ rpm version it to use the f-body trq arm.

So, reading that link for the T56 Mag it said it is basically an aftermarket version of the 6060 that is OE in the Camaro, V2, Vette, etc. If this is the case, why would anyone try getting a Mag to fit?

I didn't know about the 6060 having a non-removable bellhousing, which would make r&r a real PITA. I guess that would mean having to drop the engine and crossmember. While I've never seen a V2 6060, the Camaro unit looks to be about 1.5" in difference from ours.

Again, all this said I'll never need one. At least I hope to never break anything in the trans.

Nice work Fuzzy... valuable info here... can't say I'm in for the group buy since I have my car for sale, but if things don't work out I'll keep my car and end up doing this next year... if I'm lucky and parts are available

Fuzzy- keep us posted with what you find. I want to change my ratios over also to the 2.66 first gear and have it built to exceed 700 ft lbs. So i am looking for more then just a rebuild kit. I am living on borrowed time on my stock transmission...

Just got a rebuild kit...cost around $740. We already have the steel 3-4 fork and I don't think I need bearings. I did exchange the OE keys for the billet keys for the 1-2 and 3-4 assemblies, which alone increases the capacity. I also exchanged the OE fork pads for the bronze upgrades.

If I need a shim kit for the bearings I'll get it through the dealer. From what I hear, setting these up tight also increases capacity and longevity.

I sent out feelers for TR6060 kits this morning. Once I have an idea on pricing, I'll let you guys know and we'll get a headcount on either rebuild kits or TR6060s.

Who has the TR6060 kits? I'd have a hard time swallowing the $2800, honestly. Much of the upgraded capacity of the TR6060 is the larger bearings, ribbed case, pressure oiling system, etc...not just the main shaft, gears, and syncro's/blocker rings. There is a real '11 Camaro SS 6060 for $2900 for sale right now. And wouldn't we HAVE to retain our mainshaft since we have the unique flange style output shaft?

I was advised that the billet keys and new style replacement parts upgrade the capacity of our T56, although he didn't specify a number.

That's the opposite of what I've heard--namely, that most of the 700 ft-lb rating of the TR6060 comes from the larger mainshaft. These are not TR6060s proper--they're TR6060 guts, plus TR6060 upgrades, all housed in a T56 case with a new bell housing, tail, and shifter linkage designed specifically for the CTS-V. And they cost about $4500, not $2800.

i would be so much cheaper to use the t56 mag.

it has all the benifets of the 6060 minus the oil pump. but with the mag you gain the removable bellhousing

to put a mag in our cars you need to have your drive shaft cut and reflanged. but your going to a stronger style output the the cts-v flange style.

and you would need to make a shfter mount and reuse the cts-v remote style shifter. or you could adapt the new camaro sifter as it is close to the same as the V1

just food for thought.

You may very well be right. Back in the day when they first came out my buddy who is the Corvette Tech at my old dealership had a TR6060 apart on the bench and an F Body T56 (side job) on the other one. He pointed out the differences (this was back in the day when they first came out) and I recall how much thicker the case reinforcements and front cover was. He went through the the trans and noted everything between the two.

He did say the 6060 is bulletproof unless you miss a shift...then you're guaranteed to require a rebuild. That same thing is echoed here in this thread, with plenty of pics:

https://ls1tech.com/forums/manual-tr...vs-tr6060.html

Side note: If you go through this thread, you'll see that the 6060 internals upgrade (T56 Magnum) has steadily gone up from $2500, to $3500, to now $4500.

The Camaro 6060 is nearly identical to the V trans, only 1.5" shorter and a little wider.

the 6060 insides swaped into a t56 case is NOT the same thing as the t56 mag.

the mag is a 6060 with the removeable bellhousing (no oil pump) and the stronger case then the standard t56

the only thing the mag shares with the older t56 is the bolt pattern for the bellhousing

Well hell...that's what I thought everyone was talking about here. My bad 'yall, lol. There are lots of vendors that do "conversions" where you send your trans and it's converted to 6060 internals. A few V1 guys have had this done without changing the driveshaft, tail housing, etc. which (to me anyhow) says that they still have the OE mainshaft. That's where I was going with this anyhow.

I will no longer muddy the waters here, LOL!

its all good, i have done a **** ton of resherch on this for my car. and in the begining its very hard to follow what trans ppl are talking about.i just want to make sure every one her is getting real info on the options and differacnes in the trans.

also you can buy a t56mag on summit all day for 2850+shipping but like i seid earlyer you will need to do a little fad work to make it bolt in to our cars.

there is a company that MIGHT be developing a direct kit for us to use the mag
