So....yeah. i have not touched the damn thing in months. All of the sudden when i shut off the car it props open to vent position. Switch still in closed. Tonight i ran it through its cycle and for a few times it would not close. Long story short i got it to close, and will be pulling he fuse for it first thing in the AM. Anyone else have this happen to them? I cannot wait to rip that heavy (useless) POS out of there one day.

try this
Procedure:
# Hold in the **** and turn it clockwise.
# Wait a few seconds
# Then while still holding it in, turn it all the way counter-clockwise.
# When you put it back to the "neutral" position it will move a little (coming from the tilt to the closed position).
# From that point on it should work perfectly.

iirc, it's a bad switch. I've heard about it before.

rock auto has it for 30 bucks, if it's the control module/relay, here's one on ebay for 35 bucks. My guess it that it's the control module, TBH.
you also cannot rule out a bad body control module, or even a weak/dying battery. does it behave normally when the car is running? also, try putting the car on a charger to eliminate electrical woes. weak voltage causes cars to do some weird stuff.

You can take the switch apart and clean it and it will fix it. Mine did this so I bought another switch and it too started the same thing after a while. I pulled it apart, cleaned it, lubed it lightly and stuck it back together and no more weird stuff. It's a little tricky to put back together because of the detent ball but its doable.
