The 4L80E that I have is from a Silverado 2500 2WD. The 4WD trans has a different tail housing and output shaft. The best bet is to look for one from a 2500/3500 GM van since they have the 4L80E behind everything regardless of engine size. That way you know for sure you are getting a 2WD unit as well.

Give me a shout when/if you get everything apart, if I have a hand Might be able to drag the 80E I have laying in the shop up so you don't have to go to crazy Ray's just to test fit.

No point in buying a stock 4l80e for your power level. Just hit up RPM transmissions and buy one already done with a transbrake and all. One and done is the way to go.

I'd probably go through Jake's for the 4L80E...lots of satisfied customers using his 80E's. You can tell by his forum post's that he knows these things inside and out.

I thought we were just talking about a test fit unit...no need to spend $$$ on essentially a case to figure out what needs to be done to make the money unit fit.

Wait for this to be released so that you could use the 6L80/90.

Question 4l80E

I have a 58 reluctor wheel...Is GM still making the 4L80E? If so would it be compatible if I got say a 2006 or later?? I was told by my so called builder, [lol] that he had a 400turbo and it can be done without all the electronic bs.
Just a drop in, shifter, mount, drivrshaft fit it, turn key and go.

ps: what vehicle has the 6l80 the genII V??

Just got off the phone with a high volumn automatic tranny shop, and he said the 2009genll is a 5L40more research.

The 6L90E is not really any wider, but it does not taper as the 4L80E does. The 6L90 maintains its width virtually all the way to the output shaft. I don't belive that anyone has been able to adapt the 6L90 to older platforms as of yet by means of a segment swap, however I have not kept up on it. I don't believe there is a stand alone unit at this time, either.

The 5L40E is the 5 spd auto in the base (V6) CTS, not a chance of that thing holding up.

A guy put one in a TBSS.

Also, a controller exists to control these T43 transmissions.

It's only a matter of time until we see 6 speed [automatic] swaps in GTOs, F bodies, W bodies, C5s, full size trucks, etc.
