before you even consider making 500 you will need to address the rear end. first mod on these cars should be a rear swap!! hands down

They're already down to $40k ish depending.

Figure $15-18k for a V1... you're already halfway there.

$10k on mods to get up to 500ish whp... you're now 3/4 of the way to a V2.

Smaller pulley and larger heat exchanger on the v2 with a tune... 500whp V1 is lights in the rearview no problemo.
The debate continues and while some of the price points on both sides are generally accurate, if you do the work yourself or are creative in building relationships with shops its not accurate, and if it costs you $10k to get to 500hp then I dont know what to tell you.

When my car is running again, it will have a fully forged LSX pumping out 1500+, a 2500HP Capable 4l80e, full cage etc and I will be right around the $50k area including cost of car.

I love the v2's for a lot of reasons, but to get one to where it would compete with what mine is soon to be doing would set you back about $70k minimum including cost of car, I'll take that $30k and buy a boat.

It is easy to reach 10k and not even make 500 whp bro. Case in point, RXT clutch + FW + necessary parts 1250$. CS 8.8 4,000$ easy. Heads, cam, intake, tune (3310$ just for those 4 things) and all the other little goodies needed 5,500$. <-This is my life and that's 10,750 with hopes of hitting 450 whp so.....yeah. Add in suspension, exhaust, wheels tires, yada yada yada for another 5,000$ along with the price of the car Approx 16,000 is a total of 31,750$ So correct my math if I'm wrong, but I think your math may.......be a little skewed. So to someone who does not either know how, or want to wrench on their car going a V2 route may be very cost effective. They come with 430-470 whp and with a simple pulley, exhaust, CAI with ported TB and a tune you are well over 500, in a nicer/newer/more luxurious car.

I think the V2 is a great platform but with all the those mods on a V1 (which many I have) you come out with a more robust car compared to the V2.

There are still cases where V2 owners grenade their diffs with hard launches and bust their axles etc. They change up their brakes, clutches and exhaust just as much as V1 owners do.

I think if you're going to build a monster, it's easier on the wallet to gut a V1. I have no guilt yanking my LS6 in favor of a 427 iron block but would hesitate touching the engine on a V2. Besides, if you're going to go turbo, it's much easier on a V1 since it's essentially a blank slate - more options.

Hey man, hope you been well; Dont need Clutch, suspension or 8.8 to roll 500whp. Used SC or budget turbo system can be done for around $5k Mods to get rid of wheel hop without diff upgrade are another $1500 max. Now your passed 500HP with only $7000 including tune. Can you launch it all the time and not worry bout diff, no but you cant do that in a v2 completely either.

My cost to date:

Car $18,000

Turbo Setup $12,000 (including $2800 Turbo and the cost of the original twins less what I got for selling)

CS 8.8 $4000 (retail cost)

LSX Build $10k

4l80E $3500

Cage $3000 (killer deal)

$50,500

add $5,000 for unexpected expenses and having my stock struts modified to 90/10 setups for track days, were at $55,000

When the V2 begins coming down more it will be harder and harder to argue this with all of the features it has that the v1 does not. but for those of us who want do go a little crazy with something thats different and not just a quick dd, the prices that v1's will also be getting to will be hard to ignore as well.

Like someone said on here before; I feel like the V1 is a modern muscle/sports car with some luxury touches, while the V2 is a luxury car with a supercharged v8... so it just depends on your style and needs.

Nothing off the shelf for the v1 will get you to 500 rwhp. You need to over drive the **** out of the mp112, build a custom edelbrock eforce kit or piece together a turbo kit. I can tell you the edelbrock kit will be at least $5000 if you find all your parts on the cheap
