Fuel Pump
My car is starting to sputter and die, then it runs fine does it again etc bogged up a hill till I floored it. No codes but I think my fuel pump is going out. I called gm and ac delco got the part for the fuel pump. I'm guessing my plug is burnt like some of the other threads

Question is what is the fuel sender kit? and is needed? Ac delco guy couldn't tell me if it was included in the mu1682 kit.

I found the thread about cutting the floor to get to the fuel pump but I don't see anything mentioned about the "sending unit" or where it would be. He mentioned something about our cars having dual fuel pumps? 04-07

Fuel pump is on the passenger side. The drivers side has a sender and suction point for the fuel pump module on the passenger side of the divided tank.
The DW301 fuel pump is a direct replacement (must open the fuel pump module and replace) for $125 vice the entire module at $400.

In the threads I have seen there seems to be only one hole by the fuse box? I also can't see if they are replacing the fuel pump or both (pump, sending unit)

Ahh the memories...
I replaced the entire pump, sending unit and level sensor but I don't recall how many different part numbers it was.
The first ebay link you posted looked like it may include all three parts. The pump itself is housed in the white plastic in the lower right side of the pic below. The level sensor is that pie-shaped black piece in the upper right of this photo. The sending unit is the top piece with the green and red caps on the fuel line connections.
The second ebay link doesn't look familiar...I'm thinking that may be the secondary sending unit on the driver side.

The passenger side is the pump basket, which also hosts a sending unit and the level float
The drivers side is a pickup for the jet pump on the passenger side basket AND a level float
There are two sending units.
I have many pics of TWO holes, but that is due to adding a twin bucket/pump/jetpump pickup/sending units level floats to BOTH sides.

k thanks for the quick responses guys. 510 just to be clear, you cut the one hole in your car?( I saw your thread)
I am aware of how the tank is, when I first got down there I thought it was 2 tanks. I was just trying to understand if anything goes bad on the "sender unit" and if I should replace that also. Sounds like no one is replacing that.
My car is just cutting out driving down the ride then it is fine again, not sure what is going on

So I replaced the fuel filter, took it for a spin and couldn't even get around the block without it cutting out during throttle and just dying then not starting then starting then dying etc etc you get the point. Died 3 times trying to get in the driveway.
when it wouldn't start I kept turning the key and you can hear the pump, even outside. turn the key off/on you can hear it just fine. I also let it idle for 30 mins and didn't shut off. The issue has seem to have gotten worse, first day it just cut out while driving (like a head jerk but didn't die) then now we can barely go around the block. But idles fine.
No check engine light or anything, seems to run fine when it isn't dying/cutting out. I read some threads that mentioned a valve spring but I have no idea.
Anyone have any idea what I should try do, figured I either take the valve covers off to see something obvious or just buy a fuel pump.
any help would appreciated, just don't want to throw money at it

nope just did the easy fuel filter replace, is there a write up or anything anywhere? Not to sound like an idiot but we are little out of our element. If we knew the problem we could fix it, but troubleshooting the problem is most of the work =)
any help would be great

What did you guys seal up the hole with? My thoughts were to just cut another panel a little bigger and use some ultra black RTV to seal it.

Sounds good, raven. I'm currently on aluminum tape for now, while I still work on getting a fuel pump since the DW300 i ordered was DOA.
I installed the harness though, so swapping the bucket and pump will take me maybe an hr if that.

I ordered a new oem fuel pump from ebay, while I am waiting I am going to check the pressure. Couple of questions, if the car idles perfect (only cuts off while driving) I assume the fuel pressure will be fine? If it does check out at idel that is the pressure is okay, what meaning does that have?
the fuel pressure should be 55-60 at idle? should it go up as I rev the motor? Obviously I can't test it under load at idle

so I got a hole in my floor and took out the old pump. A little disappointed because the oem plug looks perfect, no burning or anything. Hopefully the fuel pump is the problem and I didn't waste money and cut the hole for nothing. I will put new one in tomorrow and see.
