Default Just bought my first V!

Hey guys I just bought my first Cts-V! Its a black 2005 with gray interior. 100% stock. I can tell by the "clunk" when shifting hard haha. So, to get rid of the clunking noise, don't I just need to replace the rear diff bushing? What else would yall recommend doing since I just bought it? Thanks!

Read the *** out of this forum, all of the basic issues are well covered. Check out the Cadillac FAQ as well.

Congrats on the new purchase.

Welcome, get some pics. Us simple minded folk needs pics.

Also, it is more than likely the rear diff bushing, I'd also get the bushing block as well. Check out creative-steel.com

This x100

You can honestly get all of your questions answered without ever having to post anything. Just use google and ls1tech.com+ctsv+(question) and you'll get what you need.

IMHO, the "clunk" is multifaceted with the diff itself contributing a major portion of it.

Anything and everything you do to replace the stock parts (flywheel, diff, diff bushing) will help.

Indeed. This still seems to be a major misconception with most people. I have the poly drive shaft carrier, diff bushing and block, cradle bushings, Corvette flywheel, and my car still sounds like the damn diff is going to fall out of the car each time I push in the clutch (especially when quickly pushing in the clutch in 1st gear).

No real need for the bushing block unless you're tracking the car regularly, and that's right from CS. Their bushing alone is pretty solid for street driving.

get the package deal and save on shipping. Do everything once and you won't have to deal with all the mounts/suspension shortcomings and failures in the future.

If you're still getting a "clunk" with our diff bushing and block get under the car and make sure the bolt that goes though the front bushing (the one that always needs replacing) is TIGHT !! 130-140 FT LBS TIGHT.
When that bolt is not tight enough, the bolt bangs from the top of the holes in the cradle frame to the bottom of the holes under acceleration and decel. It will sound and feel just like when the bushing is bad.
