Default Those who've switched to "truck starters"......

Do any recall what size, wire gauge ring terminal did you use? I'm away from home and my car right now and I will have limited time at home to change starters so I'd like to have everything purchased and ready to go. Thanks

I used a ring terminal off an old harness I already had laying around for a GSXR but you can use one of the yellow crimp on terminals I guess.

Just know that there are 2 truck starters...the big one (6.0, 6.2) and the small one (4.8,5.3). The big starter is about a half inch longer than the small one and it will go in the car but it's a bitch IMHO. Part of this might depend on what motor mounts you have though. I put a 6.0 starter in one of my Vs that had CS mounts and I couldn't get it in there without taking the convertor off. Luckily, the studs didn't break but you won't always be that lucky.

The 5.3 starter is the same physical size as the stock V1 starter and it slides right in...literally a 10 minute job. Buy the 5.3 starter.

benefit is ring terminal vs. fragile little clip for the starter solenoid. I would imagine price would be cheaper than V starter because there are millions of 5.3/4.8 motors. Size like stated above is same as V, again just with ring terminal vs. sh!tty clip that breaks due to heat from exhaust mani/headers

I don't recall the size, but I used a solid copper crimp terminal.

i ordered the one from the same year Silverado with a 6.0 in my case. (2006 ls2 V1)

I got the TYC (I think) brand via rock Auto. It's cheap and has been solid for 2 years now.
