Default 255-45's on stock wheel?

I just snagged a pair of V wheels and I plan to put a pair of Nitto's on them. The stock tire size is 245-45. I am wondering:

Has anyone used the 255-45 tire size yet? I talked to tirerack and they told me that the 255-45 is the largest tire size you can fit on the 8.5 in. wheel.

So I wonder if I can still get a reliable tread hookup with this combination. Want to get the car to the 1/4 mile track and get the tires in order.

Anyone??
