I'm suprised you haven't gotten three million replies for this yet. I put a cold air intake in my car only to take it out 3 months later and put a K&N filter in the box.

Why did you go back to drop in? Was there a major difference?

Cosmetics would be the only difference. No power gain with a CAI.

K & N claims a 19+ RWHP increase over stock in the dyno results on their website for their Aircharger... Seems a litle hard to believe.

Does anyone out there have any real world experience?? $325.00 is steep without some backup of the results, but it is also a pretty cheap way to add around 20 HP.

You can build your own 'StealthV' copy free flow system which is good for 9HP. I just ordered the parts myself and will build for < $100.

The one this copies:

The main gain is from getting rid of that rubber inlet in the box for it to breath better. On the dyno you will see that the engine never hits 100kpa at wot. By removing that flap or opening up the airbox lid you hit 100kpa. That is where you will see the 13hp gain. I personally like the LPE box. I have one on mine.

LPE here as well. Didn't dyno it with just intake so I can't speak to the gains, but it sure sounds good. Can certainly here it sucking air which was not audible before.

I'm using an LPE also. It seems more apt to rush towards the limiter once it's above 3k or so.

After seeing the 19 HP increase over stock dyno results of the K&N "Aircharger" on K & N's website, I dug into the stock airbox and can't see how anything could be much more efficient than the stock CTS-V's cold air intake. I didn't find a rubber inlet in the box.... Where is it??

Can anyone give me any reason not to call "BULLSHIT!!!" on the K&N dyno results????

i was looking on mine and didn't really notice anything except maybe cutting the opening in the box a little bigger, and i also dont think that the air filter used on them can have much more surface area to improve flow either...

Save your money and just change out the tube between the box and the throttle body. Several ways of doing this.

It was in there when I bought it, but it does seem to rev pretty well once I reach the 4k or so, thats comparing it to my buddys Trans Am with a whisper box and other bolts on...... What about gas milage does anyone notice a difference with anything they have done.... Im getting 25 on the highway it was 420 miles on that tank average speed of 70mph.. and about 15 when i drive normally slightly heavy foot

The K&N may have some good effect on highway mileage. I average 22 MPG on the hwy. around 80 - 85 MPH and 14 - 16 around town. When it's air filter time I might just try a K&N drop-in, maybe before. 75% of my miles on the V are highway.

I just installed a Corsa exaust (which I absolutely LOVE) and am anxious to see if that makes any improvements on my next trip.

We put the car on the Dyno before & after and 0 gains ( LPE cold air ). Now JP's shop did a Tune only on a stock V & we saw 15-20 more to the wheels. I say save the $$$ for a Tune, but that is just me.

For us unenlightened screwdriver and socket wrench old timers.... What does a "tune" consist of???
