It can also get you a nice 01-02 Z06. Under 75k miles, $20k cash C5 Z deals are out there.

i've had both...the 2000 frc and i now own the 06 v. ur dilema is a matter of what you truley desire...you need to come to grips with ur fear and desire and get off the fence. both cars are instant bliss, both cars get respect, the vett says hey look at me looking at you to see if ur looking at me. the v says i didnt expect such a sh*t eatin grin when i passed you with style. ur choice is a tuff one. i expect in the next few weeks as u toss and turn in ur sleep u will make the right choice or maybe a deal 2 good to be true will nudge u along. good luck in all ur future endeavourse...and let me know what u decided upon.

I'll start by saying I came from a 2002 Z06 and a 2003 Z06 to a 2005 CTS-V.

That being said, I like my V better. The V is more refined and updated than the C5. I would have bought a C6 if I could have afforded it. I like having the ability to pile all my buddies into the car, haul *** to the bar, pick up women on the way and still bring some home. That's hard in the vette. Although, it is possible to get two girls home if you need to, and at that point... you NEED to. The vette DOES have carrying space. I came back from Missouri to Texas one day with a z06 titanium catback and 35 shotguns IN softcases BEHIND the back glass of my z06. You had no idea that anything was back there except it looked pretty low.

I've had my V for a month and the things I don't like about it are:
*The navigation blows IMO.
*The rearend (its already had it replaced since i've owned it)
*Gas mileage. I'm getting 22mpg at 70mph. My vette was getting 32-34mpg at the same speed on the same section of highway.
*The V is FAST. But I think its fast in its own realm. I went to a road course this past weekend and wailed on C5's C6's, one supercharged z06 and a Zr1. The latter 2 could have been missing the driver mod, but its nice to hear "I got passed by a cadillac!!!" from a Corvette owner, 100ft away!

I love my V. It will be better with a cam'd LS7 and an IRS 9". (Or a 2010 CTS-V Rearend.) Then i'll be VERY content.

I've had my Z06 for 7 years and recently purchased a CTS-V for my wife. They both have their strong points. The V is a lot like a C5Z with a weight problem, but more ground clearance, room and amenities. They both get looks and respect from car people. The V is a little thirstier, but it's not bad. The last tank (mostly interstate) was 24.7 MPG. That's refilling and calculating myself, not the DIC.
Fortunately I get to enjoy the V as a family car and the Z06 as a occasional commuter/weekend toy.
I've put about 32K miles on the 'Vette in 7 years. It's a perfect 3rd car and although it would be fine as a daily driver I wouldn't want to use it that way. I'm a little too sensitive to the effects that daily driving have on a car... my Z06 still looks new and I want to keep it that way.
I think you can't go wrong with either. Good luck with your decision.

I've never checked mine manually and I'm curious as to the difference that you got versus the DIC.

Jon, my 2000 C5 reads 2.25-2.5 MPG higher than the DIC. V is within 1 MPG commuting or right on target for multi-hour trips.

Exactly. I'm surprised at how accurrate the avg. MPG and fuel used measurements are with the DIC.
