Please Help A CTS-V Noobie! (Transmission / Diff. Related)
Help guys! I've had my 2005 CTS-V for almost a year and have put on about 12,000 miles (started at 41,000 and now I'm approaching 52,000). I did a LOT of reading tonight on how the rear diffs get replaced constantly and this is freaking me out.
1. My rear end whines. Its constant and not too loud as long as I'm just lightly on the gas. It sounds just like my moser 12 bolt in my Camaro.
2. When i pull into my driveway (downhill into my parking spot) and make a right turn while in neutral i hear a mild moaning/howling sound if i turn sharply. With the clutch pushed in - this stops.
Does anyone have a rear end they've lived with whining? I don't beat the car at all and I'd like to think the guys going through 2,3, and 4 differentials are drag racing and beating on the driveline. I figure I've already made it 10,000 miles and the whine is NOT getting worse.
Its that growl when I turn sharp in neutral (or a low gear) that worries me.
Thoughts???

A lot of guys live with the whine, especially if they're out of warranty. I have a slight whine with light gas arounf 45 mph, but barely noticable with the headers.
You've had the car for 12k miles - have you changed the diff fluid yet? I would do that a minimum of probably twice a year or every other oil change. That might help with the growl.

I haven't changed the diff oil yet...and knowing the dealership I bought it from they didn't do it either. I should put that on my to-do list (I'm due for an oil change anyway...).
How tough is it to do? I'm thinking pull a drain plug then refill from the check plug on the side of the case?
Yea, sounds like you have the same whine I have. How many miles on your car?

I know mine was replaced under warranty, but I took mine in for a whine, they said there were metal shavings in it and they'd replace it. Mine makes creaking noises when you release the clutch and starting moving... weird.
