Flunked e-Test
HC(ppm) 2500rpm = 404 (limit 200) Idle 691 (limit 200)
Can't figure out why the idle is so high. CO was a pass.
Open to suggestions. PM if you know someone who can get me through.
There are no more easy passes they video your car and vin.
Why not get a conditional? $250.00-400. depending on the shop.
Get some new lifters and pushrods installed
You're not failing that much. I bet even using some methyl hydrate you'd get it to pass.
Can you bump your idle up? try and get the car to idle at 1000-1100rpm. That does a lot to clean it up

Not sure how hot the cat was, but the car idled for quite awhile before the test. Idle is at 900rpm. The guy couldn't get the rpm meter to work so he did the idle/high RPM test manually.
I'm not an expert on e-tests, but I thought at 3.5x over on the idle I was pretty bad. Car sat all winter, only drove it a few KMs before testing it. Could have been made worse by toluene added to gas last year.
Got a Temp permit for it. Been driving it to work hoping I can use up the gas and get the ECM to tune the engine better. Will use methyl next test. If it flunks again I guess it's either a tune or the old $400 conditional scam.

^^ THAT is bad...yours isn't.
The higher the car idles, the more it cleans up. I don't trust people manually doing crap.
Tips for you:
- call ahead of time and make an appointment. Take the car for a good rip before going into the shop and make sure your car is at operating temp and the cat is nice and hot from a rip.
- Don't let the shop let the car just idle there and make you wait...you want to come fresh off your rip right into the shop and into the machine ASAP. The hotter the cat, the better it works...you give it time to cool and your readings are going to go up
- HC is unburnt fuel, how are your spark plugs? stupid question I know, but are they really old? regardless, you can also try closing the gap on them some...instead of running 0.060 try a .045 gap. You'll get a stronger spark that could help compensate and burn up more of the fuel
- Look into methyl Hydrate, from my understanding it lowers HC but raises NOx, but they don't test for NOx here anymore so who cares.

I came back in after driving 1hr and did the test and at most it cleaned it up 50-75ppm, which was more than enough to get a slight fail to pass.
