Yes those prices are fair. If you're looking for custom work you're paying their labor rates and parts (flanges, etc). It's a sucky thing but when you look at all the money you'll toss into your car, this is peanuts in the long run. Ger er done and enjoy your ride.
If you can find a wrecked Fbody, i'm not sure if a y-pipe off that will do but keep looking if you're looking to save a few bucks.

Do you absolutely have to have cats??
No etests anymore, you can save a big chunk if you choose not to run them.
What else is done to the car? ie. engine mods, cam etc?
If it's a stock LS1 and you don't plan on camming it, definitely don't worry about putting cats on it.
The smell is barely noticeable on a stock LS1 with no cats.

I appreciate the help everyone. I had it done in Barrie at Bent by Kent. Overall it was a decent job but my choice of muffler was poor. I had him put on the slp dual dual exhaust and it is really quiet. The loudmouth and no cats was too loud at wot but this is really quiet. Due to this, I can now hear my gear whine again whereas the loudmouth did a great job at hiding it. So now im looking at rear end options. The local wreckers wants 800 for a rear which is way too much in my mind. I am hoping to hear back from cam about his 8.8 options if he is still making them.
Once I get to 80 I find the gear whine to be quite annoying with it calming down a bit around 110. I was thinking some sound deadening in the back with a closed cell foam on top would help with this. I would obviously like to address the actual problem but the rear has done close to 90k km like this. Granted I have never taken the car to the track and I simply spin on the road. I would love to hear some options from guys in Ontario on who to go to for rear ends.
Also looking for some tires, what are you guys running on the rear for mostly a street-car.
Car:
A4 car, headers, ls6, stock ls1, ported tb, ssra, 3.73 gears, lca rod ends, panhard bar, strano springs, koni shocks, relocation brackets, strut tower brace, torque thrust II with old s-drives on them ( i found that they never hooked all that great)
