I don't think so. There are two problems with this...

1) There are few sellers that would do that

2) When crossing the border you get your RIV forms, which are then mailed out to you. Without this it will be impossible to get the car legal in Canada.

Could you simply just pay the seller (legal us resident, with legit passport) to drive the car to canada, and fly back to the states?

Seems like it would make the deal a lot easier to deal with.

Default back from the dead

A buddy went down to look at a car. Us border told him he needs to send his info 72hrs before. He continued on and brought the car back to the Canadian customs. They sent him over to a biulding were he payed taxes and fees and went home.
Has anyone done it this way.
I'm bringing a car back but I cant give them 72hrs notice

I bought a fbody in the states last year (ohio) and imported in to canada (edmonton). Yes you have to give notice. Fax the title and bill of sale to the border you are crossing at 72 hours prior. And CALL to confirm they received it.

I called the next day after faxing and they said yes they received it and you can bring it across anytime. That was 24 hours later
