You'll run into big problems - the GTO is listed as inadmissable for imporation to Canada. Check out http://www.riv.ca for info regarding importing vechicles into Canada from the U.S.

how can you import it illegally and then register it legally.
I thought that as long as you bring it to our standards its ok.
You have to pass an import inspection to start registering it legally.
And why wouldn't they allow it? They allow FORDS on the strret?!

It appears that the owner obtained a vin number of a car (say a camaro, firebird, etc) that existed in Canada and used it to certify the GTO with Ontario License plates.

Or

The owner was a US citizen who decided to takeup pernament residence in Canada and is somehow exempt from regulations regarding importing cars into the Canada. Must be a loop-hole somewhere in policy that the owner exploited.

Either way it would be interesting to see exactly what the ownership states the car as.

Pontiac sold all GTO's in the US only since this was a limited run. Who knows, maybe the next gen GTO will also be available up here.

Wait until it's 15 years old, then you'll be able to register as many as you want.

I would imagine that if you had native status it would not apply to you. Technically there is no border for them. Afterall, they can bring weapons back and forth across the border without question.

LMFAO Customs rules and regulations apply to us 'natives' too. You have been told one to many stories. Haha, no border!

You native???? If so you should know. I know i do. What band are you from? Not all rules and regulations apply to natives as I have found out from where i live. I am not sure about importing cars though. The way i see it is there is a cloudy spot with border crossing and what can and cant come across. But as i have understood the border doesnt really apply to them. Some things it seems to and others not.

From a buddy on a gto forum:
"A few had been up on Auto Trader and Ebay from places in Southern Ontario (I've only seen two). The dealers probably brought them in before the RIV put them on the inadmissible list.

The RIV is _very strict_ about importing illegal cars so i don't think the dealers did that like someone in that thread suggested.

How many actually made it into Canada i have no idea, but not many. And Southern Ontario seems to be about the only place (from what i have come across at least). "

I heard there were 5 or 6 kicking around in Ontario... So keep checking guys, but I'd imagine if you found one it would probably hold its value as new with its unique rareness

Yeah I am native. I have imported a few cars into canada. I still had to pay GST at the border on the car. I could see the only grey area would be if the border crossing was on a reserve, but I am pretty sure one doesnt exist. As for bringing anything else across the border all the rules apply to Canadians in general. If there were exemptions for natives buying weapons, you would probly have to prove that they are either 'hunting & gathering' for personal survival. Similar to treaty rights for hunting. I am pretty sure you cant just go buy a hand gun show the border your treaty card and say see ya.

I know of a Mitsu Evo that got imported before the RIV put it on the inadmissable list, so I am sure some people got away with the GTo's in the same fashion. I wish I had cash back then, I probly would of gotten me one.
