Garbage truck nabbed under street racing law near Goderich, Ont.
GODERICH, Ont. - It's likely a first under Ontario's new street racing legislation.
A provincial police officer pulled over a fast-moving vehicle on Wednesday just east of Goderich near Lake Huron. It was a garbage truck and it was caught on radar doing 112 km/hr in a 60-kilometre zone.
The 58-year old driver from Clinton, northwest of Stratford, was charged with racing and with failing to inspect a commercial motor vehicle.
The garbage truck has been impounded for seven days and the driver has lost his licence for a week as well.
He will appear in a Goderich court on June 5 to answer to the charges and faces a possible fine of $2,000.

This wonderful new law has NO thought behind it. It has NO "FOCUS". A garbage truck driving over the posted limit is speeding, not racing.
Pretty amazing how our provincial gov't has written this new law that:
A) eliminates the due process of being charged, tried, then convicted. Directly from the Charter:
"Any person charged with an offense has the right ..... d) to be presumed innocent until proven guilty according to law in a fair and public hearing by an independent and impartial tribunal;"
B) also from the Charter:
"Any person charged with an offense has the right ..... e) not to be denied reasonable bail without just cause;
I realize you're not in jail for 7 days, but your license and car ARE locked up for 7 days, with NO grounds for appeal or "bail". So regardless of guilt or innocense, you ARE punished by loss of use of your vehicle, license, and you MUST pay easily ~$1000+ to retrieve your car from impound.
C) gives the police officer ON THE SPOT, ABSOLUTE POWER, as Judge, Jury, and Executioner.
..... I'm sorry, but they're just people too.
D) applies the word "racing" completely out of context (ie: no actual "race" needs to take place for "racing" to have occurred?!).
But the people of Ontario voted for this ***-hat, giving him a majority government TWICE now .
