Default Which Ignition for Carbed LQ4

I was wondering what ignition and intake setup to use on a carbed 6.0, ive heard the ignition with the edelbrock 7118 is not the best choice because of the only timing options being the few "pills" they give you. I've heard the msd 6ls-2 is a much better option with computer prgrammable timing, the only thing is i can't find a kit including the ignition, harness, and intake manifol, if anyone knows a place to order this please let me know!!

I would use the edelbrock rpm intake and msd ignition box it comes with the harness for the ignition portion if you need a engine harness get it from painless wiring and use a 700cfm carb all stuff is available from the vendors on the right

The MSD box will come with the harness that you need. You will use the 6LS box for a motor with a 24X reluctor, and the 6LS-2 for a motor with the 58X reluctor. Use the Edelbrock intake and you're set.

MSD part #'s are 6010 for 24X crank, and 6012 for 58X crank. The MSD comes with a complete wiring harness for the ignition. I used an Edelbrock vic jr intake and I have no regrets.

There is not a single LQ4 that is 58x. That is LY6 territory. The LQ4 has cathedral heads. You will need the carb intake for the cathedral heads. You will use a MSD6010. that is all.

It will definitely work for you application yes. Just bolt it on and forget it.

The 7118 is a dual plane, the 2908 is the vic jr setup. Use either way.

You can use either. They will both produce about the same results. I would go with whichever one is less expensive and on hand lol.

From what I can tell, the dual plane is a little more expensive, but I have 2 of them on hand. The Single plane is about $30 less but would have to ship direct from edelbrock.

the 6010 with the Performer RPM is actually 100 bucks cheaper than the 7118 kit from edelbrock.

Hello guys, real LSx newbie here. Been building Gen I SBC for 25 plus years and just picked up a couple LSx truck motors to play with. Couple questions on this: Did you just run the 6010 without the MAP sensor then? Is the MAP sensor basically used for a vacuum advance curve, for better streetability and cruising? Seems like the 6010 with software is the better option overall. If I don't need the MAP sensor, then all I get for the extra $100 is the throttle bracket, more or less, and I'm stuck with the pill timing curves. Am I missing something? Thanks in advance for your help and patience!

your right - get the MSD box so you can custm tune the timing curve.
Map sensor is not mandatory, but it is VERY helpful for drive-ability. I use it.
